We are looking for a snappy Front End Developer who will – together with our team – build the infrastructure for a unique and exciting multi-campus European university. No-nonsense work, but love and dedication to make the DOM look beautiful and functional so that our users get to where they need to be. Consuming API’s to create gorgeous views in state-of-the-art frameworks for multiplatform use. Yes, you will be responsible for building progressive web apps and more. And yes, we want you to leave your mark on the project from ideation to the business concept. But you need to be open and learn along the way with us.

About You

You enjoy working within an international team in a relaxed yet professional atmosphere. As the Junior Front-End Developer, you will:

  • Work within in the YUFE Management Office team and closely with other units at Maastricht University Office;
  • Collaborate with the team to determine the most suitable solution for the problem;
  • Provide a data plan, and make a plan for the integrations;
  • Provide a well-functioning UX design matched with or house style based on wireframes and input from our UX designer;
  • Ensure that the front-end and back-end integrate without issues, while selecting which features belong in each;
  • Work in a team and share your progress within this team on a daily basis;
  • Regularly work with colleagues from partner universities; which may require travelling from time to time.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Developing front end website architecture;
  • Designing user interactions on web pages;
  • Ensuring cross-platform optimization for mobile phones;
  • Ensuring responsiveness of applications;
  • Working alongside graphic designers for web design features;
  • Seeing through a project from conception to finished product;
  • Meeting both technical and consumer needs;
  • Gathering information for the app development (interviews, focus groups, research, etc.);
  • Documenting internal and external source code;
  • Creating implementation and test specifications for new applications; participating in testing;
  • Troubleshoot and implement testing solutions;
  • Handling support and documentation of the mobile applications created;
  • Working closely with team members at Maastricht University as well with other developers and colleagues at other YUFE partners to ensure goals and objectives are met;
  • (Co-)Organizing physical as well as virtual meetings with other relevant colleagues at YUFE partners;
  • Staying abreast of developments in (open source) web applications and programming languages.

Requirements

  • Proven work experience with one of the two modern front-end frameworks: Angular and Vue;
  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3;
  • Understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms LESS and SASS;
  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling and REST API;
  • Knowledge and experience with developing using Amazon Web Services (AWS);
  • Basic knowledge of image authoring tools and cross browser compatibility design;
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tool GIT;
  • Willingness to constantly learn and apply the tricks of your trade at work;
  • Professional University (HBO) work and thinking level (At least a completed bachelor in computer science or a relevant qualification);
  • Language skills: Dutch B2, English C1.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year with the possibility for an extension of up to 3 years, based on a good assessment.
