Job description

For this position, we are searching for a visionary
As a professor, you are responsible for the development of research and teaching. This position requires vision – vision in terms of research ideas in the field of MRO and in terms of working with our partners (companies and organisations) and employees to make a difference. At the Aviation Academy, you will make an active contribution to aviation through applied research and the dissemination of knowledge. In addition to publications, this includes training professionals through Master classes and organising international conferences.

The main task of the professor in Aviation Engineering is to expand the research programme in cooperation with the international aviation sector and to link this to the teaching activities of the Aviation Academy. You have a clear vision of the role and contribution of applied MRO research in aviation, you are able to involve lecturers/researchers and students in research projects, and you ensure that acquired knowledge is incorporated in the Bachelor’s curriculum, master classes and/or the professional Master’s programme. As a professor, you have a visible role in education, and you coordinate the tasks of the associate professors and lecturer/researchers in the professorship.

More specifically, the professor in Aviation Engineering explores the question of how MRO can contribute to making aviation more sustainable. You are able to maintain and expand the network of the Aviation Academy. The professor in Aviation Engineering is a member of the Aviation Academy Management Team together with the director of education, fellow professors and business development manager. The Management Team directs the progress and development of the Aviation Academy and coordinates this with the dean of the faculty.

Requirements

Are you the professor we are looking for, one who can inspire our students and staff members?

You have a relevant academic background in the field of Aviation Engineering and have a PhD. You have acquired relevant work experience within the aviation sector, specifically with MRO and preferably within the industry. Experience with Safety and Human Factors is considered a plus.

You are an authority in the sector. You are up to date with the latest developments, both technologically and commercially. You are also capable of applying strategic and practical issues in your field of expertise in the research programme and vice-versa. You have a relevant network within the sector and the world of academic/applied sciences. You are looking forward to coaching associate professors, researchers and PhD candidates. You have excellent communication skills, and you are also entrepreneurial, diplomatic and eager to take the initiative.

Conditions of employment

The activities fall under the organisational position of professor 2. This position corresponds to salary scale 15 (cao hbo). The salary is a maximum of € 7,284 gross per month with a full appointment and is dependent on knowledge and experience. It is initially a temporary appointment for a period of four years. The AUAS has an extensive package of secondary employment benefits, including a generous holiday scheme and a 13th-month payment. In addition, the AUAS (through the AUAS Academy) offers excellent study and development opportunities and encourages employees to continue to improve their professional skills.

The Aviation Engineering professorship was launched in 2009 and has since established a solid track record of research in the field of aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and Human Factors and Safety. The professorship particularly focuses on MRO, and has an extensive network in the national and international aviation sector. Current research projects concern the use of data and predictive maintenance, applying lean in MRO and maintenance of modern materials.
