Job description

Within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS), the Department of Biomedical Signals and Systems (BSS) is looking for a highly motivated Assistant Professor (f/m) in the area of clinical technology, with expertise in signal analysis and physiological control systems. In this position, you will strengthen our collaboration with the Ziekenhuis Groep Twente (ZGT) in your research and contribute to teaching in the biomedical signals and systems field.

The mission of the BSS department is to enable improved diagnosis and treatment of patients with chronic diseases involving e.g. the endocrine, motor and/or cardiopulmonary functions in a clinical and home/self-care setting. Our research is embedded in the Technical Medical (TechMed) Centre of the University of Twente (UT). The regional hospital Ziekenhuis Groep Twente (ZGT) is among our preferred partners in research. Our teaching contributes to the Technical Medicine and Biomedical Engineering curricula.

Requirements

  • You have a PhD in the field of technical medicine or biomedical engineering on a relevant topic in endocrine, motor or cardiopulmonary (dys)function.
  • You have proven expertise in the advanced analysis of (stochastic) physiological signals and physiological control systems and experience in working in clinical environments.
  • You have excellent communication skills and experience with academic teaching.
  • You master the Dutch language both in speaking and writing. This is required for the clinical technological research you will be involved in and for undergraduate teaching in the Technical Medicine curriculum.
  • You are a great team player, but also have a high degree of responsibility and independence

You will be appointed for two years at the UT, with the prospect of a permanent position after a positive evaluation. For your research, you will work both at UT and ZGT in close collaboration with Prof.dr. Miriam Vollenbroek-Hutten. You will perform your teaching under the guidance of Prof.dr.ir. Peter Veltink.

The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Universities (CAO), and include:

  • A starting salary between € 3.637 to € 5.656 gross per month, based on your experience;
  • A holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, a year-end bonus of 8.3% and a solid pension scheme;
  • a minimum of 29 leave days in case of fulltime employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A fulltime employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis.
  • The possibility to save up leave days for sabbatical leave;
  • Professional and personal development programs.
