Job description

We are looking for 1 PhD students, Sanquin, division Research, departments Immunopathology, location Plesmanlaan, Amsterdam (36 hours). Interested? Please read further!

We seek 1 PhD students to be based in Amsterdam, and additional PhD students at the partner laboratories of the EU Marie Curie training network INSTRUCT. The INsTRuCT Consortium is a research network of leading European scientists from academia and industry focused on fundamental research and clinical translation of myeloid regulatory cell (MRC)-based immunotherapies. At Sanquin we will develop and validate antigen-specific assays for T and B cell responses. Assays will be used to investigate the immunological impact of MRC-based therapies in clinical trials (ESR10).

In total we will recruit 15 PhD students for positions in the Netherlands, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium and Ireland. Research topics range from fundamental to translational science, all at the forefront in the field of MRC-based immunotherapies. Successful applicants will also receive expert training in basic immunological research, preclinical pharmacological development, manufacturing processes, clinical trial design, healthcare economics, ethics and marketing. You will perform your PhD studies in a multidisciplinary environment and will obtain expert training in preclinical and clinical development of cell-based medicinal products.

Requirements

A Master’s degree or equivalent in a field of science relevant to their chosen project. Demonstration of a history of academic excellence and an affinity for Basic Immunology, Computational Biology or translational research. Eligible candidates must speak and write fluently in English, have less than 4 years’ previous research experience and not hold a doctoral (PhD) title and have not been resident in the country where the host institution is located for more than 12 months in the 3 years before  recruitment. Eligible candidates must be available for a personal interview at the INsTRuCT recruitment meeting in Barcelona, 23-25 March 2020 and must be available to start their project no later than 1st September, 2020.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 3 years.

Department

The Immune modulation and Immunomonitoring Research group is part of the Department of Immunopathology in the Division Research of Sanquin. We investigate the modulation of immune responses by blood products as well as immunomodulatory therapies, with a specific focus on CD4+ T cell and Bcell responses. The department comprises 40-50 people (post-docs, PhD-students, undergraduate students and technicians) that all work on related research topics.
