We are looking for a bioinformatician in the field of translational gastrointestinal oncology. There is an unmet clinical need to better stratify stage II and III colon cancer patients for treatment with adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT). DNA mutations affect tumor biology, disease prognosis and treatment response. We are collecting large cohorts of stage II and III colon cancer patients for extensive tumor-tissue DNA mutation profiling and post-surgical blood-derived circulating tumor DNA analysis, to improve patient stratification for ACT. Your tasks involve analysis of large genomics datasets by running existing and developing novel workflows; optimizing and standardizing data flows; interacting in a multidisciplinary  team at the interface of research and diagnostics.

This multidisciplinary project is lead by Remond Fijneman (NKI, Translational Gastrointestinal Oncology group; head Gerrit Meijer) in close collaboration with Geraldine Vink (UMCU and IKNL, clinical studies) and the company Personal Genome Diagnostics (Baltimore, USA).

Your profile

We are looking for a bioinformatician with experience in analyzing sequencing data and establishing workflows, who has the ability and motivation to facilitate and perform high quality translational research in a multidisciplinary setting.

• An MSc or PhD degree in Bioinformatics;
• Able to write bioinformatics workflows using Python and R;
• A strong interest in biomedical research and translational oncology;
• Committed, motivated, and enthusiastic to work in a multidisciplinary setting;
• Excellent communication skills. 

Fixed-term contract: 1 year, with the possibility of extension.

You will join a dynamic international research team, and will collaborate with scientists with expertise in different disciplines. Your temporary employment will initially be for a period of one year. Following satisfactory evaluation of the first year the contract will be extended up to four years. The gross salary per month will be in accordance with education and experience. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals).
