Over the next three years ISRIC- World Soil Information will coordinate various projects dealing with the generation of soil information for Africa as well as the use of this information for sustainable intensification of land use. For the Soils4Africa project, funded through the EU Horizon 2020 program, we are looking for an experienced project coordinator, with preferably a track record in Africa.

Tasks

The most important tasks as project coordinator are:

• coordinate projects that aim at the development of soil information products that support sustainable intensification of land use;
• coordinate activities carried out by the project partners, ensure mutual adjustment;
• ensure timely and high-quality reporting to the funders of the projects;
• organise meetings of the projects Executive Team, Steering Committee, and all project staff;
• perform the role of secretariat of the Project Steering Committee, which includes scheduling and preparing meetings in cooperation with its chair, and providing minutes;
• coordinate the tasks of ISRIC colleagues in the project;
• financial project management, including receiving all payments made by the Commission, allocation between contractors and activities, and keeping accounts of this.

Required

• MSc degree in e.g. physical geography, agronomy, soil science. Although we are not looking for a scientific researcher, a (scientific) track record in sustainable land management or soil fertility is an asset.
• proven track record in managing international projects, preferably in the field of sustainable land use;
• ability to effectively engage with international colleagues, users and clients;
• good command of English and preferably more international languages (e.g. French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese);
• willingness to travel when needed.

Desired

• affinity with (or experience in) spatial mapping techniques, preferably in the context of sustainable land management and/or soil fertility management;
• command of other languages (e.g. French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese).

A challenging temporary position for a period of 3 years with, depending on your experience, a competitive salary of between € 3637,- and € 5656 gross per month, for a full-time working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Wageningen University CLA (scale 11/12). A part-time assignment of 4 days per week is negotiable. Applicants with non-Dutch citizenships may qualify for tax reduction over
