Specifically, you will focus on what role the complement system plays in immune reactions against post-translationally modified proteins that occur in for instance rheumatism or lupus. As a PhD candidate, your goal is to translate your work into a doctoral thesis. As a postdoc, you will also supervise and lead other researchers within this project and related other studies.

We are looking for a PhD candidate who holds a master’s degree in the area of biomedical sciences of biology. When applying as a postdoc, we also expect you to hold a PhD in a similar field. You have experience with biochemical techniques, such as protein purification and westernblot. In addition, you have experience with cellular and immunological techniques, such as cell culture, FACS-analysis and ELISA. Experience with animal models is advantageous. Thus, you are eligible to work with animal models (‘article 9’ qualification in the Netherlands). You have a flexible mindset and the motivation to work on multiple projects simultaneously. The latter is especially important as a postdoc, as you will fulfill a supervising role in several research projects.

You will be employed on the basis of 36 hours per week. As a PhD candidate, appointment is for a maximum of four years, to be completed with a doctoral thesis. Your salary will start with € 2,422 gross per month in the first year, amounting to a maximum of € 3,103 gross per month in the fourth year based on a fulltime position (scale for PhD students in the Collective Labour Agreement for University Hospitals).

As a postdoc, appointment is for one year, possibly to be extended with one or two years. Your salary is based on your education and experience and amounts to a maximum of € 4,481 gross per month based on a fulltime position (scale 10 in the Collective Labour Agreement for University Hospitals).

Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (IHB)

The teams of the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (IHB) conduct research on, among other subjects, the pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders, transplantation and anti-tumor therapies. You will work in the laboratory of one of the groups associated with the department. The group is made up out of research technicians, PhD students and postdocs who are all focused on the antibodies and complement system.
