Job description

Work environment
Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is one of Europe's top technological universities, in the heart of one of Europe's largest hightech innovation ecosystems - the Eindhoven Brainport region. Research at TU/e is characterized by a combination of academic excellence and a strong real-world impact. This impact is often obtained via close collaboration with hightech industries.

Research Challenges in 5G PPP project 5G-PHOS
The H2020 5G-PPP 5G-PHOS aims to architect and evaluate 5G broadband wireless networks for dense, ultra-dense and hot-spot area use cases. The 5G PHOS technology proposition leverages on recent results in the area of optical technologies towards producing and exploiting a powerful photonic integrated circuit technology toolkit for 5G and beyond systems. The project has entered the final phase of laboratory trials, experimental evaluation and final demonstrations.

TUe campus 5G test and evaluation site
At the TUe campus we are developing a 5G testbed offering attractive open environment for pilot tests as well as evaluations for applications and scenarios that require the new stringent 5G key performance indicators (KPIs) to be met, like, e.g., robot-to-robot communication, fronthaul to robot, robot-to-drone, broadcasting, city security, 3D-communications, 5G automated vehicle driving, to name but a few. Several 5G Project from several groups at TUe such as 5G PPP blueSPACE, Metro-haul, 5G MOBIX, 5G PHOS, 5G STEP FWD and others are cross-collaborating in setting up the 5G test-environment.

The candidate
We are looking therefore for strong researcher, at the level of post-doctoral, engineering or industrial researcher to help us tackle the challenges required to bring 5G research forward and specially to build further the TUe Eindhoven 5G test-beds.

Position profile: 5G sub-systems, demonstration and test-bed for end-end-to test and validation
The candidate for this position will carry out research and development in:
  • Test of subsystem for both analog and digital radio-over-fiber transceivers for the 5G-PHOS FlexBox concepts and versions
  • Test-bed preparation, experimental validation and demonstrations of use cases defined in 5G-PHOS
  • Contribute to the definition of the roadmaps for research and development for migration and deployment studies for 5G networks and what shall come next such as 6G systems.

The candidate for this position will contribute to the TU/e efforts in stablishing the collaboration liaisons with the blueSPACE and 5G-PHOS partners and other researchers in the project. The candidates will contribute to the related project reporting, scientific publication and dissemination activities and preparation of proposal for grant to national and European projects. The candidate is expected to interact with several teams at TUe in the efforts of stablishing and operating the common activities in the Eindhoven 5G test-beds.
