Job description

Within the University of Twente (UT), DesignLab is the home base of a research program in Responsible Design, aiming to connect technology development with societal challenges. To develop this interfaculty program, we are looking for a postdoc who will take the lead in developing this program, together with the Faculties of the UT, for a period of three years.

DesignLab is a platform for transdisciplinary collaboration and creativity that focuses on education and research in design research. We build creative and transdisciplinary connections between science and society through the Science2Design4Society approach. We contribute to tackling societal challenges and problems by translating scientific and technological developments into these challenges in an innovative way. The challenge

In this position, you will

  • Develop the outline of the Responsible Design research program, in cooperation with the Responsible Design project team at the DesignLab;
  • Formulate research themes for Responsible Design, in cooperation with the Faculties of the UT;
  • Investigate funding opportunities for research projects around these themes;
  • Connect the research themes to the Responsible Design methodology that is developed within DesignLab;
  • Conduct research on Responsible Design in relation to the activities developed in DesignLab and publish about this.

Requirements

We are looking for

  • A highly motivated, positive and hardworking researcher (F/M) with a PhD degree in Design Research, Philosophy of Technology, and/or Science and Technology Studies.
  • You have demonstrable interest and/or experience in societal and ethical aspects of technology,
  • Good team spirit, excellent organizational skills and a transdisciplinary attitude,
  • Excellent communicative skills, both within academia and in relation to societal partners;
  • You like to work in an internationally oriented environment where many cultures meet.
  • Proficiency in English is a requirement.

The faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) comprises three disciplines that shape Information and Communication Technology. ICT is more than communication.
