We are looking for an inspired, innovative assistant professor to engage in cross-cutting research within the law school’s research project on 'Sustainable Global Economic Law (SGEL)', and to teach innovative courses in the field of European law, at both graduate and undergraduate level.

The ideal candidate will:

• conduct research within the law school’s project on ‘Sustainable Global Economic Law (SGEL)’, which investigates law’s role in shaping the global economy as well as possibilities for transformative change towards greater degrees of social and environmental sustainability;
• teach and coordinate courses in the field of European law, subject to further agreement and the competences of the selected candidate;
• contribute in cooperation with colleagues to the continuous development in educational methods and content of the European law master’s programmes;
• supervise master theses at graduate and possibly undergraduate level, and eventually assist in the supervision of PhD students;
• carry out and publish independent and high-quality research that fits within the SGEL project and research at the Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance (ACELG);
• actively contribute to the research community of the law school, in particular of SGEL and ACELG;
• apply for external research grants with organizations such as the NWO and ERC;
• perform administrative and organizational tasks for the department, SGEL and/or ACELG (eg participation in programme committee, examination board, etc.);
• work as part of a team.

The ideal candidate:

• has a PhD in law;
• has proven, high-quality research output in the field of European law (and/or a closely related field/discipline) in international journals and/or books;
• has excellent didactic qualities as evidenced by educational evaluations, where available;
• has the basic qualification at Dutch universities in higher education (Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs; BKO) certificate, or a willingness to acquire such;
• has an excellent command of English, both verbal and written; knowledge of Dutch will be considered an advantage;
• has excellent scientific writing, planning and communication skills;
• has a strong motivation both to teach and to do research;
• qualifies for additional research time under the standard of the research priority area (criteria can be requested by email).

The appointment is for 32 to 38 hours per week and will be for a period of two years, with a possibility for permancy depending on performance and funds.

The starting date of the appointment is as soon as possible with August 2020 at the latest.

The gross full-time monthly salary will be in accordance with the salary scales for Assistant Professors at Dutch universities, scale 11 (Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities) ranging from €3,637 to €4,978 gross per month (full-time equivalent).

Secondary benefits at Dutch universities are attractive and include 8% holiday pay and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
