You will be part of the European Politics and Society chair group and a team aiming at excellence in teaching and research. You will teach courses on European Politics and Society, predominantly within the interdisciplinary European Languages and Cultures (ELC) BA programme and the track European Politics in Global Perspective in the MA in International Relations. The chair group concentrates on European political theory, comparative political systems, and political cultures- and the ways they operate in a broader societal context, from a theoretical and empirical/historical perspective. Research by the lecturer will be conducted under the auspices of the Groningen Research Institute for the Study of Culture (ICOG) and its Research Centre for the Study of Democratic Cultures and Politics.

Requirements

• you have a PhD in political science, sociology, or history
• you are able to teach a variety of both undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of European politics and society in English (CEFR C2 for speaking, reading, listening and writing) and in a foreign language, preferably German; knowledge of Dutch is a plus
• due to the multidisciplinary nature of the ELC degree programme, you are able to place European politics and society into a wider cultural, historical, theoretical and socio-political context
• you demonstrate excellence in conducting high-level research, have an active research agenda as demonstrated by publications and an international network
• you have teaching experience and/or relevant teaching qualifications (such as BKO –Dutch University Basic Education qualification)
• you like to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 24 months.

We offer you in accordance to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:
- a salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of € 2,709 (salary scale 10) to a maximum of € 4,978 (salary scale 11) gross per month for a full-time position
- 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees; favourable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants
- 232 holiday hours per calendar year for a full-time employment
- a temporary position financed through an external H2020 grant that will be tenable for 2 years (1 September 2020-31 August 2022) on a 0.8 full-time equivalent (FTE) basis.
