Job description

TU Delft highly values excellent education and wants to give a strong boost to this by hiring 4 new colleagues. These new colleagues focus primarily on education and are also active in scientific research.
In this position you spend approximately two thirds of your time on providing, renewing and developing high-quality education within one of the programs of the faculty of Applied Sciences. Depending on your background and experience, you are responsible for some parts of the curriculum. Our special interest goes out to, but is not limited to, teachers with an interest in teaching lab courses ,  engineering and instrumentation courses, and education in academic and digital skills.
When designing your education, you make enthusiastic and informed use of the latest didactic insights and forms of education. In your education you emphasize  connections to societal  and technological developments and to current scientific research.
You contribute to a collaborative study culture and an inspiring student-teacher community. You value direct contacts with students and you are accessible to them. You guide and coach colleagues in their development to become good teachers and educational developers. You promote a supportive and inclusive culture for every student and colleague. You make connections between different courses and with different teachers within the curriculum. You take a leading role in the (re) design of education and testing.
In addition to your teaching duties, you actively participate in research within one of the departments of the faculty of Applied Sciences. We expect you to supervise BSc and MSc students in their thesis projects, that you co-supervise PhD students and postdocs, and that you contribute to scientific publications. We do not require you to set up your own research line or obtain funding for this.
The vacancies are at the level of (tenure track) assistant professor or associate professor, depending on background and experience. The salary and the terms of employment are based on the Collective Labor Agreement Dutch Universities (scale 11-12 for assistant professor and scale 13-14 for assistant professor). TU Delft facilitates and stimulates academic careers with an emphasis on education. For tenure track assistant professors, thye successful development along this career line leads to promotion to  the position of associate professor and can lead to further growth to the position of full professor.

Requirements

You have graduated and obtained your PhD in a field relevant to  the faculty of Applied Sciences. You are a motivated and dynamic teacher and you have achieved appealing results in  education, be it at a university, a school for higher professional education or a school for secondary education. You have an (academic) teaching qualification or are prepared to acquire it quickly. You are enthusiastic about,  and have knowledge and experience with, innovations in education and you realize such innovations with creativity. You are collegial and communicative and have managerial talents that will enable you to further grow into management positions within the educational organization of TU Delft. You want to combine education and research in your academic career, with an emphasis on education. Your research expertise fits in with one of our research departments.
TU Delft is a bilingual organization. Education in all our  Master's degree programs and in the Nanobiology Bachelor's degree program is in English, whereas the Bachelor's programs in Applied Physics, Life Science and Technology and Molecular Science and Technology are in Dutch. Although an excellent command of both Dutch and English is necessary for an optimal job performance, the not (yet) perfect command of the Dutch language does not have to be an impediment to a successful application. We support further development of the Dutch or English language.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: tenure track (6 years with the prospect of a permanent contract).

At the start of the tenure-track you will be appointed as Assistant Professor for the duration of six years. Section leader, department leaders and you will agree upon expected performance and (soft) skills. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and the mid-term evaluation. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively at the end of the tenure track, you will be appointed in a permanent Assistant Professor position.
