Job description

The department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management (School of Business and Economics) is committed to providing high quality education and to conducting high quality research. We invite candidates with a PhD in Marketing (or a strongly related field) to apply. This is a tenure track position with a duration of 6 years, with the possibility of extension and permanency depending on your performance.

We are looking for a high-potential candidate who is committed to excellence in teaching and research. The candidate will teach (post)graduate, undergraduate or executive courses through our face-to-face, problem-based instructional format, supervise Master and PhD students and contribute to the department's educational development activities. The candidate should be able to conduct research that is publishable in international top marketing journals. The candidate should contribute to the transfer of the department’s knowledge and expertise to the outside world (valorization).

Your challenges

Educational Innovation is high on the strategic agenda of the School of Business and Economics, University Maastricht. A critical success factor is the development and implementation of state-of-the-art courses in undergraduate and graduate programs. The candidate will serve as a course coordinator for at least two courses. This implies the candidate is responsible for the development, coordination and assessment of high quality courses. Given the nature of Problem Based Learning, the course coordinator is also responsible for the coaching and instruction of tutors.

In addition to teaching responsibility, the candidate will also work on independent scientific research aimed at international peer-reviewed journals. The department offers a stimulating research environment and encourages its members to build their (inter)national research network.

As a result the candidate will participate in our research and educational development activities, and is receptive for team work within our department, school, and university.

Finally, all faculty takes responsibility for services at the department or school at large. The allocation of tasks is done by matching needs of the department and personal preferences.

Requirements

To qualify for the position, the candidate should have, by the time of appointment:

- A PhD degree in marketing (excellent candidates from all sub disciplines—i.e., consumer behavior, quantitative marketing, strategic marketing are invited to apply);
- Experience in independently coordinating undergraduate and graduate courses;
- A strong potential in research, evidenced by a track record of scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals or promising work in process;
- A Teaching Qualification Higher Education (Basis kwalificatie Onderwijs) or equivalent. In case the candidate does not have this qualification yet, we expect the candidate to be willing to acquire this.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with students, colleagues, and corporates at a variety of levels in a collaborative, effective manner;
- A proven ability to be outward looking;
- The ability to connect people to achieve common goals;
- A track record of success in working within a team.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 10 years.

Salary is competitive, depending on qualifications and work experience, between € 3.637,00 and € 4.978,00 as from 1/9/2020  per month for a fulltime assistant professorship (12 monthly payments). On top of this, there is an 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3% year-end bonus. Non-Dutch applicants could be eligible for a favorable tax treatment (30% rule).

Initially, candidates are employed on a temporary contract as assistant professor (level 2) and agree to specific development goals. Five years into the appointment, candidates will be evaluated and if the development goals have been met, promoted to assistant professor (level 1) on a permanent contract. The evaluation can be brought forward if criteria are met earlier. On the candidate’s request the evaluation can be deferred in case of special personal circumstances, such as pregnancy leave, parental leave or chronic illness.
