Job description

The Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) is a unique cooperation between Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and Tilburg University (TiU). JADS provides a knowledge infrastructure that aims at providing innovative educational programs, data science research, and support for business and society, with activities centered on the question how to take advantage of data in a responsible way. JADS is active at three locations: besides the campuses of TU/e and TiU, a vibrant campus fully dedicated to data science is located in the former monastery Mariënburg in Den Bosch.

The Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) program Data Science is a two-year post-master program, located in Den Bosch. It qualifies graduates with an MSc degree in, for instance, mathematics, statistics, or computer science to become top-level professionals. Such professionals help industry and business in their decision-making processes based on real, actionable data or become innovative entrepreneurs in the data science ecosystem. The program focuses on teaching trainees to apply knowledge to solve real world problems, to know what knowledge is relevant, and to acquire missing knowledge fast. Blended learning, project centered education, close cooperation with external partners from industry and society, extensive training on soft skills, and personalized programs are the central ingredients in the program. The second year is dedicated to a project in industry or society. Projects have a wide variety, ranging from optimizing product portfolio's for retail companies via understanding trends in health of the population of Noord-Brabant to for instance smart building and enabling the energy transition.

The program has been highly successful so far, with much interest from trainees and industry. As of 2018, about forty trainees participate in the program. There is need to expand the current staff with an additional member with a focus on developing the second year of the program.

Tasks
  1. Acquisition of projects for trainees in the second year of the program in collaboration with business Impact team
  2. Enabling the process of finding the best match between trainee and project in the first year
  3. Implementing the "demand" for a suitable assignment for the PDEng trainees
  4. Business value creation
  5. Coaching the trainee during the assignment on project process
  6. Support the project evaluations and reporting
The coordinator will participate in
  • Guiding and coaching of PDEng trainees
  • Acquisition of projects and relation management with business and society
  • Organization and execution of workshops and round tables with industry
  • Cooperation with the Impact Team of JADS
  • Cooperation with the scientific director and managing director of the program, researchers and teachers within JADS, aiming at knowledge transfer.

Requirements

The candidate should preferably possess 
  • A PhD or a PDEng in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or another discipline with a strong emphasis on data science
  • 3-5 years of experience as data science expert and/or consultant in an industrial or societal context
  • A problem driven, engineering and design oriented attitude
  • A strong interest in guiding and coaching trainees with pluriform backgrounds
  • A strong interest in cooperating with external partners
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, in English and preferably also in Dutch
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, commitment, and an entrepreneurial attitude

Conditions of employment

  • We offer an exciting and challenging part-time position (0,6 fte).
  • The contract will be for one year with the intention to extend the contract, when suitability has been shown.
  • The salary is in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement of the Dutch Universities and depending on education and work experience, salary scale 10 / 11 with a minimum of €2.709,= and a maximum of  €4.978,= (CAO-NU);
  • Additionally, an annual holiday allowance of 8% of the yearly salary, plus a year-end allowance of 8.3% of the annual salary;
