Requirements

We are looking for an excellent scientist with a research focus on quantum devices that have the potential to develop into robust quantum bits. Possible topics range from the fundamental physics of quantum hardware, topological superconductivity, hybrid architectures combining different qubit approaches such as circuit QED and semiconductors, nanodevices hosting non-Abelian anyons, to novel quantum bit architectures. The research direction should allow for synergy with the existing work on quantum bit development within QuTech. Candidates are expected to have a successful scientific track record and be able to formulate an independent research program, and are also expected to participate in teaching.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 years with the prospect of a permanent contract.

A tenure-track position is offered for six years. In the fifth year we’ll decide if you will be offered a permanent faculty position, based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment. We expect that you have the potential to grow towards an Associate Professor and/or Full Professor role in the future. Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme. TU Delft sets high standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. The TU Delft offers training to improve English competency. If you do not speak Dutch, we offer courses to learn the Dutch language within three years. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount on health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged. For international applicants we offer the Coming to Delft Service and Partner Career Advice to assist you with your relocation. An International Children's Centre offers childcare and there is an international primary school.
The successful applicant can expect a competitive start-up package to enable a quick start of their research program.

QuTech is the leading advanced research center for Quantum Computing and Quantum Internet. QuTech is a joint research center founded in 2014 by Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). Quantum technology is a key future emerging technology and QuTech is at the forefront of research and development in this field. QuTech addresses both scientific and engineering challenges in close collaboration with internationally leading industrial partners. Within QuTech researchers of TNO and the TU Delft faculties EWI (Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Sciences) and TNW (Applied Sciences) work closely together in an international, inspiring and innovative working environment that allows plenty of space for ambition, entrepreneurship and innovation. At this moment we have a team of 300 people working at QuTech and we are happy to welcome our new dedicated Electronics Instrumentation Engineer as soon as possible.

QuTech, founded by Delft University of Technology and The Netherlands Organization for Applied Research (TNO), is a mission-driven research centre for quantum computing and quantum internet that aims to develop scalable prototypes of a quantum computer and inherently safe quantum internet based on superposition and entanglement, by bringing world-class scientists, engineers and indus¬try together in an inspiring environment. The QN department comprises an internationally oriented research environment aiming for the understanding of physical processes at the nanoscale and the development of novel quantum materials and devices. Both QN and QuTech are part of the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience at Delft.
