The Department of Imaging Physics at TU Delft invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) faculty position. Successful candidates are expected to establish an independent research line in an emerging area of imaging physics that adds synergistically to our current research portfolio. We are especifically interested in candidates that want to create a program in photonics and/or optical instrumentation. This can include, for instance, very low light or low signal-to-noise levels, or spatial confinement and application in metamaterial based instruments, the use of coherence in for example interferometric approaches, or polarimetric approaches in imaging. Candidates that can bring together fundamental work in optics with a specific area of application are particularly welcome.
Research in the department is aimed at developing novel instrumentation and methodology to push existing boundaries in imaging science and sensing. Also, we advance the fundamental understanding of waves and particles, their interaction with molecules and materials, and the analysis of the signals generated during interaction. Our work has clear societal impact in the areas of life sciences, healthcare, and industry. We are eager to further expand in areas of fundamental as well as applied imaging that would complement and strengthen our research efforts (www.imphys.tudelft.nl).

Successful candidates are expected to establish a strong, externally funded research program and to be committed to excellence in teaching at undergraduate (Dutch or English) as well as graduate level (English). Candidates are expected to be competitive in attracting personal (amongst others ERC funded) grants. Applicants should hold a PhD in experimental or computational physics with additional experience in a postdoctoral or industrial position. Dutch language skills are not required. Fixed-term contract: 6 years with the prospect of a permanent contract.
At the start of the tenure-track you will be appointed as Assistant Professor for the duration of six years. Section leader, department leaders and you will agree upon expected performance and (soft) skills. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and the mid-term evaluation. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively at the end of the tenure track, you will be appointed in a permanent Assistant Professor position.
