Job description

Organizations increasingly find the need to share data to accomplish common goals no single organization can achieve on its own. However, in absence of trust, organizations are reluctant to share their data. An important element needed to enable such sharing is that holders of data need to be ensured that their data is only used for the purpose for which it is shared but not for any other purpose. Examples of areas where the need of sharing data in- and across sectors is recognized are science, industry, logistics, health, finance, travel & mobility, society, energy and other. Applications of data sharing are AI development, value chain optimization, enabling more sustainable choices, complex operational decision taking, and many more.

What are you going to do?

Learning from concepts as Internet Exchanges we develop generic Data Exchange concepts that facilitate secure and trustworthy data sharing among organizations. Here, organizations create ecosystems where systems are able to digitally manage the exchange of data with contracts expressed in a domain specific language. Both community rules and contractual terms are translated in languages that can be implemented and enforced as policies in the infrastructure. As such constructing data exchange systems to ensure data sovereignty, correct fulfillment of a contract, agreed exchange of value, protection of rights, and more. Such digital enablement can be used as means to reduce risk, allowing trust to emerge within an ecosystem. In this position you will work in close collaboration with several initiatives and (funded) projects stimulating the development of data exchange systems using and pushing newest developments in computer science, in particular in the area of software engineering, domain specific policy language development, cryptography, distributed computing and virtualization.
