The Department of Public Administration at the Nijmegen School of Management (Radboud University, Nijmegen, Netherlands) is seeking applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow. As part of the interdisciplinary faculty research programme / hot spot GAINS (Governance and Innovation in Social Services), the Department of Public Administration has conducted several research projects on the governance and delivery of local public services, a domain which has undergone profound changes over the past decade. In the context of local care services, there have been major initiatives to make services more responsive to the needs of specific groups, such as migrants.

You will conduct theoretical and empirical research into how municipalities and local care providers reach out to migrant populations and to what extent such efforts are in tune with the life worlds of these populations. In other words, you will study the extent to which inclusiveness is part of the efforts to customise social services to the needs and demands of migrant groups. A scoping review of the literature on inclusiveness and social service delivery is part of the research to be conducted, complemented with comparative case research in Dutch municipalities.

• A PhD in social sciences (e.g. sociology, public administration, political science, human geography), preferably with a focus on migrant groups.
• Experience with empirical research methods, particularly in qualitative research (e.g. interviews, focus groups, ethnography).
• Academic writing skills, demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Fluency in Dutch (C2) and at least proficient knowledge of English (C1).
• Strong social skills and the ability to effectively communicate with different stakeholders.
• The ability to work creatively, flexibly, and independently.

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

• Employment: 40 hours per week.
• A maximum gross monthly salary of € 5.127 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11).
• The exact salary depends on the candidate's qualifications and amount of relevant professional experience.
• In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
• Duration of the contract: 2 years.

The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organisations. There are seven disciplines within the NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. 
The NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach. The educational programme is characterised by small-scale teaching and provides a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills. The NSM employs 280 FTEs, 75% of whom are academics. Currently, the NSM has approximately 4,800 students.

The NSM´s research activities fall under the responsibility of the interdisciplinary Institute for Management Research (IMR), which represents the equivalent of 60 FTE staff members and 50 FTE doctoral candidates (PhDs). The IMR's distinctive orientation is on 'responsible governance for sustainable societies' which requires multi- and interdisciplinary research across the broad spectrum of the social sciences. The debate on the fundamentals of academic research in the domains covered by the Nijmegen School of Management is organised in the IMR Academy. The PhD programme is organised in the IMR Doctoral School. The IMR research programme is built around 6 multidisciplinary research themes linked to strategic scientifically and societal relevant issues, including European policy, gender and diversity, international conflicts and policy, entrepreneurship and innovation, integrated decision making, and governance and innovations in social services. Research groups working on these themes consist of researchers from different disciplines. The Department of Public Administration is responsible for the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Public Administration. The latter offers three specialisation tracks: Policy and Advice, Public Management, and Governance of Safety. The Department hosts three full professorships in Public Administration, three professors by special appointment (Safety and Risk Management, Public Administration, and European Integration), two associate professors, twelve assistant professors, and several PhD candidates.

The Department of Public Administration initiates and performs high-quality academic research in public administration, with the aim to explicitly contribute to the central aim of the IMR, i.e. responsible governance for sustainable societies, in order to become an internationally recognised centre of expertise in the field of governance and management of private and public organisations. The staff of the Department is actively involved in two 'hot spots' of multi- and interdisciplinary research within the IMR and has a leading role with regard to the hot spot on Europeanisation of Policy and Law (EUROPAL) and the hot spot on Governance and Innovations in Social Services (GAINS).
