The Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies seeks to appoint a full professor of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Judaism, who will also be chair of the Department of Textual, Historical and Systematic Studies of Judaism and Christianity. You will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as for the curricula of Biblical Studies and Textual Sources of Ancient Judaism and Christianity within the Faculty. You will furthermore carry out high-quality research, lead the research group of Biblical Studies, Ancient Judaism and Ancient Christianity, and seek to acquire funds from external funding schemes, especially NWO and ERC.
You are an outstanding scholar in the field of Hebrew Bible and the Second Temple Period, and you have expertise in Classical Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and preferably one or more other ancient Semitic languages. We welcome scholars with all relevant types of specialisation, but we encourage applicants whose work examines linguistics and applied linguistics of Semitic languages, literary criticism, textual criticism, reception history, and/or Qumran studies, as well as the reception and interpretation of the Hebrew Bible in various historical and cultural contexts from the First Temple period up to late Antiquity, including early Christianity. Applications of outstanding scholars in adjacent fields may also be considered.
Fixed-term contract: The position of Full Professor is in principle a permanent position.
