Job description

The Metadata Specialist is positioned within the department of Digital Resource Management. This is where you work together with other specialists in the field of metadata and accessibility of scientific content. Within this department, the functional and technical management of a large number of systems also takes place.

The range of tasks includes:

  • You take care of the set up and management of (meta)data models for the library;
  • You ensure uniformity in the use of metadata fields, so that collections are presented more coherently. In this manner, you contribute to the quality of our search systems;
  • You manage and analyse the quality of data (bibliographic and administrative records) in various information systems;
  • You perform (batch) operations, conversions and read-in procedures on these information systems by using scripting;
  •  You follow relevant developments (national and international) in the field of metadata standards and information systems, acquire knowledge of these standards and systems, give instructions on their use and make proposals for metadata policy:
    • You use your expertise to participate in projects, both local and national (UKB);
    • You provide content support for cataloging and other metadata activities, both within and outside the department, such as heritage;
    • Implementing and enforcing regulations;
    • Drawing up, maintaining and managing manuals and descriptions of work processes.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of (inter)national metadata standards (Marc21, RDA, Dublin Core) and exchange protocols;
  • Experience with relevant library systems, the University Library uses OCLC products such as WMS, Record manager, Collection manager, License manager, contentDM (heritage), Tipasa;
  • Affinity with research information systems and the use of metadata standards for research output;
  • Relevant higher/academic education;
  • Analytically strong with an eye for planning and accuracy;
  • Able to motivate others, boldly and enthusiastically;
  • Good command of Dutch and English (at least B2 in accordance with CEFR or willingness to develop to this level).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

This is a temporary position for a period of one year, after which a permanent appointment can be a possibility.

The salary is dependent on the candidates’ experience and ranges from € 2.790,- to € 4.402,- gross per month, on a fulltime basis (scale 10). EUR offers attractive terms of employment, including a holiday allowance of 8%, an end-of-year payment of 8.3% and generous leave arrangements. In addition, you will work in an internationally orientated organisation with a strong international reputation and good employment conditions according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). Furthermore, EUR takes part in the ABP pension scheme, and we also offer partially paid parental leave. Moreover, EUR staff members are allowed to make use of the EUR facilities, including the Erasmus sports centre and the University Library.

University Library

Digital Resource Management

The department of Digital Resource Management is responsible for all systems and applications management of which the University Library is assigned to as system owner. In addition, the department manages the knowledge base of the University Library as well as the underlying metadata models. The department also provides know-how and capacity to the other departments and projects regarding IT development. Furthermore, this department represents the University Library in the development of the general information architecture within the EUR.
