Job description
We are seeking to hire an Assistant Professor with expertise and interest in Global, European and/or Comparative public law. The successful candidate will teach and be involved in the development of various constitutional and administrative law courses taught by the Department of Public Law in the Bachelor and Master programs offered by the Faculty of Law. She or he will carry out independent and original research within the parameters of (at least) one of two research networks: Globalization and Law Network and the Law and Tech Lab.  The research conducted by members of these networks include topics like multi-level governance, human rights and the rule of law, the impact of Globalization and Europeanization on national constitutional and administrative law, as well as digital developments in the various domains of public law.

Requirements

Job requirements
Candidates must:

  • hold a PhD in law, with a focus on Global, European, Comparative and/or Dutch public law.
  • give evidence of sustained research achievements, reflected in peer-reviewed publications.
  • have experience in teaching, by preference European, comparative and/or Dutch constitutional and/or administrative law.
  • have an excellent command of English.
  • have excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills.
  • have excellent organizational skills.

Knowledge of Dutch will be considered a strong advantage in the selection procedure.

Conditions of employment

Conditions
Candidates are employed temporarily as assistant professor (level 2) and agree to specific development goals. Five years after employment, or earlier as soon as the development goals are met, the candidate is promoted to assistant professor (level 1) in a permanent position. On the candidate’s request, the decision can be deferred in case of special personal circumstances, such as pregnancy leave, parental leave, or chronic illness.

The salary depends on academic qualifications and experience. The salary will be set between minimum gross month salary € 3.746,00 of salary scale 11 and maximum gross month salary of € 5.826,00 of salary scale 12, based on a full-time employment, of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities. For people recruited from abroad a reduced income tax rate may apply.
