Job description

A hardworking and committed senior researcher nutrient management in agro-ecosystems, for the Sustainable Soil Management team at Wageningen Environmental Research (WENR).

A senior researcher with profound knowledge of nutrient management practices in Dutch and European agriculture and effects of such management on soil quality, water quality and emissions to air. You can inform and advise both Dutch and European policy makers on effective nutrient use to improve environmental quality. You are able to initiate scientific innovations and publish results in both scientific as well as impact-oriented journals. You initiate, and contribute to, the acquisition of new research projects based on innovative ideas and represent WENR in external commissions and working groups.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you need to be a team player, need a customer and result-oriented attitude as well as strong affinity with soils, agronomy and agricultural nutrient management. As ideal candidate you bring all or most of the these things:
  • a background in environmental sciences, agronomy, soil science or a related science, preferably at PhD level;
  • extensive knowledge of agronomy and nutrient management;
  • affinity with policy advice;
  • at least 5 years of experience with project management;
  • ability to acquire large (inter)national projects;
  • excellent verbal and writing skills in Dutch and English, or the ability to read in Dutch and willingness to further learn Dutch on the job;
  • strong social and communicative skills;
  • ideally an extensive (inter)national network relevant for this function.

Conditions of employment

We offer a meaningful and international work environment characterized by hardworking professionals who perform in multidisciplinary teams. Depending on your expertise and experience a salary from a minimum of € 3925,- to a maximum of € 5892,- (scale 12) based on a full working week of 36 hours in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement of Wageningen Research. The appointment is for a period of 12 months with a possibility of an extension (0,9 - 1,0 fte).

The mission of the team Sustainable Soil Management is to contribute to improved soil management practices and soil quality for the benefit of resource use efficiency and recycling in biomass production systems. In doing so we help to increase food, feed, and fibre production alongside improved water and air quality. We are passionate about the chemical, biological and hydrological characteristics of soils, and how those relate to the use and recycling of carbon, water, nutrients, metals, fertilisers, manures, and wastes.
