This job opportunity is for an Assistant Professor in International Law, in the department of Public Law and Governance (PLG). PLG is a large, diverse and interdisciplinary department, home to nearly 100 academic staff and a range of legal and social science disciplines. You will develop and grow in teaching as well as research. You will be part of a vanguard team of scholars, with a distinctive interdisciplinary mission to understand continuities and transformations in international law and global ordering. Our interdisciplinary profile is distinctive in Europe owing to our flagship degrees in International Law and Global Governance (LLM) and Global Law (LLB).  

Job description
As our Assistant Professor, you develop and teach a range of courses principally in International Law, both also in Global Law and International Relations. Your courses will span a number of teaching programs, such as the: International Law and Global Governance LLM; Global Law LLB; and Rechtsgeleerdheid LLB (your teaching in English). Further, you conduct research individually, and develop a research profile compatible with the research profiles and priorities of the Law School. Research within Tilburg Law School is organized into several cross-departmental research programs, notably as: Global Law and Governance, or Law and Technology. Your teaching and research is managed according to PLG’s Work Allocation Model (WAM), where the general ratio for full-time academic staff is 60% Teaching and Service and 40% Research.

• You have a PhD in International Law, or will defend successfully your PhD no later than 6 calendar months from the first day of your employment contract. 
• Your growth potential in the field of research is evident from publications in renown international journals or press. 
• It is an advantage if you already have experience with interdisciplinary research and teaching, in particular combining International Law with e.g. International Relations, Political Economy, Ethics, Legal Theory, Social Theory or Political Theory. 
• You deliver excellent presentations, with proven skills and agility for residential and online teaching.
• In addition, you are a team-player that exemplifies citizenship and community spirit, with good social and interpersonal skills. 
• You are fluent in English, and are committed to learn Dutch according to the learning trajectory developed and set by your line manager. 
• You are expected to have a Basic Teaching Qualification (in Dutch: BKO), or are prepared to acquire this within the first two years of your employment. 
• You are highly committed to being an active member and good citizen of our department, and to integrate actively with colleagues and communities present in the department and the school.

The starting gross salary varies between €3,746 and €5,127 gross per month (full time) based on scale 11 of the Collective Labor Agreement Dutch Universities. Employees recruited from abroad may be eligible for the 30% tax facility- this means that 30% of your salary will be paid as a tax-free reimbursement.

Tilburg University offers you an employment agreement for a period of 5 years. 

You are entitled to a holiday allowance amounting to 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% of your gross yearly income. If you work 40 hours per week, you receive 41 days of paid recreational leave per year.
