Job description

Since January 2019 the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology & Clinical Pharmacology coordinates a Horizon 2020 project (acronym HTx) which aims to create a framework for next generation Health Technology Assessment (HTA) that supports patient-centred societally oriented, real-time decision-making for integrated healthcare throughout Europe. HTx facilitates the development of methodologies to deliver more customized information on the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of complex and personalized combinations of health technologies. The HTx consortium includes 15 partners around Europe.  As a post-doc you will be responsible for the development of these new HTA methodologies at the division but will also be involved in the overall scientific coordination of the HTx project.

The position involves 80% research time and 20% coordination activities. As your core tasks you will among others:

  • coordinate developments of new HTA methodologies that support more customized assessments of effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of complex and personalized combinations of health technologies;
  • initiate the advance of methods that are aiming to integrate real-world evidence (RWE) and randomized clinical trials (RCT) in order to achieve better estimations of real-world (cost)-effectiveness;
  • support implementation of these new methods in the daily practice of national HTA organisations around Europe;
  • carry out and (co-)supervise research (PhD and MSc) within the scope of the HTx project;
  • contribute to the scientific management of the Horizon2020 project HTx.

Requirements

We are looking for someone to complement our team, both on an academic and personal level, who:

  • has a PhD degree in Health Economics, (Bio)Statistics, or (Bio)Medical Sciences, or other relevant research field;
  • has strong research track record in methodological development/evaluation in particular in prediction-modelling as part of health economic approaches;
  • has scientific creativity and productivity, as evident in recent publications in (international) peer-reviewed journals;
  • has experience with European projects and collaboration with different international partners including implementation of methods in daily practice;
  • is effective and efficient, and can think conceptually;
  • is fluent in English, has good communication skills and is able to work within international/ multidisciplinary teams.

Conditions of employment

We offer:
  • a challenging position in a dedicated team of Researchers;
  • a temporary position (1.0 FTE) for one year, which can be extended after good evaluations to three years;
  • a full-time gross salary ranging from € 2,790 to €4,402 in scale 10;
  • benefits including 8% holiday bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment conditions based on the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities.

The Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) is the Research Institute of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Utrecht University. UIPS focuses on processes around discovery, development, and use of drugs and medical nutrition using molecular and technological principles from the Natural and Life Sciences. As a postdoc New Methods Health Technology Assessment you will be employed at the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Faculty of Science, Utrecht University. The Division of Pharmacoepidemiology & Clinical Pharmacology consists of a multidisciplinary team of internationally oriented researchers.

The mission of the division is to improve the safe and effective use of medicines by patients and society. Our research contributes to a better understanding of the variability in medicines’ use and patient outcomes, both from a clinical, policy and methodological perspective.
