Job description

FASoS is a colourful and creative community. The position of Events Coordinator, will give you the opportunity to develop, execute and evaluate events that contribute to the Marketing & Communications strategic goals and targets of the faculty and the UM. Mainly in (but not necessarily limited to) the areas of student recruitment, internal communications, alumni and student life.

The main tasks of this position are:

  • Advising and assisting the faculty head of M&C in the organisation, execution and follow-up of events on behalf of the faculty.
  • Planning and management of the execution of events on behalf of the faculty (e.g., registration, timing/programme, managing external suppliers, coordinate event personnel).
  • Co-development of communication plans for promoting of events like the Bachelor and Master Open Days, Experience Days, faculty introduction days and graduation ceremonies.
  • Development of (either through external/internal suppliers or self as feasible) content (text, photo, video, etc.) for on and offline materials to promote events or be used during events
  • Evaluation of events through quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Coordination and management of student ambassadors (selection, training/mentoring, administration, scheduling) who support events.
  • Coordination of (academic) staff involved in events (e.g. for presentations, info markets, case-writing).
  • Acting as the main liaison from M&C department to shared Events Team.
  • Provision of advice on event organisation to other departments of the faculty.
  • Ensuring UM/faculty quality standards are implemented.

The appointment (1,0 fte) will be for the period of 1 year. With shown suitability after 1 year, this contract will be changed to a permanent contract. In case of good performance and equal prospects for the faculty, extension of the appointment can be offered.

Salary scale: the position of Events Coordinator is ranked as Communications Officer 2, salary scale 8.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) has about 250 staff members, and about 1,730 students. More than 77% of the students are non-Dutch (65 different nationalities). All programmes are offered in English and some are also offered in Dutch. FASoS offers four 3-year bachelor’s programmes: Arts and Culture, European Studies, Digital Society and Global Studies. It also offers eight different 1-year Master’s programmes and two 2-year research master’s programmes.

Research is organised around four programmes: Politics and Culture in Europe; Science, Technology and Society Studies; Arts, Media and Culture; and Globalisation, Transnationalism and Development. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is housed in the historic city centre of Maastricht.

The FASoS’ Marketing & Communications (M&C) team is looking for an enthusiastic colleague to strengthen the team. The M&C team consists of six persons, of which one is the event coordinator. The M&C team closely cooperates with the shared Marketing & Communications department, the other faculties M&C teams and other clusters within the faculty.

The M&C department develops and carries out M&C activities in line with the objectives formulated for undergraduate and graduate education as well as research conducted under the auspices of the various departments and institutes, the Research Institute for Arts and Social Sciences and the Graduate School at FASoS. Strategic spearheads include ensuring quality and innovation in the primary processes of education and research as well as developing and maintaining relations with relevant external stakeholders.
