The postdoc will help to build a glaucoma research center which employs biochemical analysis of blood and aqueous humor samples, and in vitro assays on patient cells to assess patients’ individual glaucoma profile. An important task of the postdoc will be to establish in vitro glaucoma models using cells of patients, including retinal cells derived from iPSCs. These in vitro models will be used to develop and select appropriate treatment options. The postdoc will work in a team of glaucoma specialists, senior scientists, PhDs and technicians.
Fixed-term contract: 1 year, with the possibility of extension (1+3 years).

Depending on experience and qualification, the gross monthly salary is scale 11 (max. € 5.127,-).

The University Eye Clinic Maastricht is located in a stand-alone 7-storey building with a focus on infrastructural environment. A balanced and calming appearance is very important when approaching patients who we know to have great fear of low vision and blindness.
An optimal infrastructure has been created for professionals working in eye care. For example, there is a separate floor for ophthalmic function examinations, the clinic has all modern diagnostic equipment and there are 28 consultation rooms. Surgical interventions take place in our own OR department with a day care center and 4 fully equipped, up-to-date operating rooms.
The University Eye Clinic Maastricht has opted for two top referral functions, namely Glaucoma and Cornea. Our innovative scientific research is particularly focused on these. Most research activities are performed within the Research School for Mental Health and Neuroscience (MHeNs).
Within our Clinic, a team of 24 ophthalmologists, 24 ophthalmologists in training, 3 senior researchers, a varying number of PhD students are working closely together. In total over 200 employees are working in the Clinic.
