The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) is a multinational research infrastructure devoted to the study of population and family dynamics. We are looking for a new team member to help manage the transition to a fully implemented research infrastructure. This will involve collaborating with the GGP director and the other team members in:

• Formulating the strategic decisions for the infrastructure
• Further developing the GGP following the ESFRI standards
• Collaborating and liaising with our various international stakeholders including other research infrastructures
• Fundraising
• Evaluating and enhancing the impact of the infrastructure (including through dissemination activities)

The Generations and Gender Programme and NIDI

The aim of the GGP is to provide high quality and cross-nationally comparable longitudinal data to answer pressing scientific and societal challenges on population and family dynamics. It is based on the collection, documentation, and dissemination of data from large-scale, nationally representative surveys from Europe and beyond. It provides data on the transitions to adulthood, family dynamics, fertility decisions, work-life balance, well-being, and intergenerational exchanges. The GGP data have high scientific impact and provide support for empirically-informed policies on families and population. As a research infrastructure, the GGP also supports multidisciplinary collaboration in the field of population studies, data innovation and survey methodology.

The GGP recently submitted an application to be included in the 2021 ESFRI Roadmap. If successful, the next years will be devoted to further developing the legal side of the infrastructure as well as securing its financial sustainability. The new research infrastructure manager is expected to take a key role in these developments.

The GGP central hub is located at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI). The institute is part of The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and is associated with the University of Groningen.

We are looking for candidates with at least two of the following qualifications:

1. Prior experience working in a research or survey infrastructure, either in research management or data management.
2. Background in the field of demography, family sociology or survey methodology including excellent knowledge of longitudinal and/or cross-national survey data
3. Familiarity with ESFRI and/or European funding programmes.

Importantly, while the candidate is expected to help promote the scientific value of the infrastructure, the work will be mostly focused on the strategic and business side of the infrastructure. Candidates are expected to have a proven track record in a similar position. To succeed within this project it is necessary to have an excellent command of the English language, both written and oral.

The candidate is expected to start in January 2021 (negotiable). The appointment will be for a period of 12 months. Any extension will be contingent on performance, availability of funds, and the human resource needs of the infrastructure. Our CLA (CAO Nederlandse universiteiten) stipulates a maximum of 4 years in total for a temporary contract. 

All positions within NIDI are classified according to the University Job Classification System (Universitair Functie Ordenen, “UFO”). This position is classified as Coordinator External Collaboration or Researcher (depending on qualification). All remuneration includes 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3% year-end bonus according to “CAO-Nederlandse Universiteiten” (CAO-NU). The exact salary scale will be based on prior experience and education.

Because of the nature of the position, we will consider various arrangements including a secondment from a current employment or a part-time contract. Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI)

The Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI-KNAW) is an Academy research institute. NIDI conducts research on population issues and informs policymakers and society about the results of demographic research. By concentrating researchers from different disciplines in a single institute, NIDI has become one of the most important demographic research centres in Europe.
