Job description

Hotelschool the Hague is a Hospitality Business School with strong ties to the international hospitality industry. The school seeks to explore “tomorrow’s hospitality industry”, which entails studying the balance between “High Tech” and “High Touch”, or the added value of hospitality and human interaction in a context of evolving business models in the hotel industry and adjacent economic sectors.

The Research Centre is the unit of HTH responsible for studying and discussing the academic developments in our discipline and for conducting top-ranking research on the main concerns, opportunities and threats of the hospitality industry. It provides value to students and hospitality professionals through the dissemination of recent developments in the academic literature, and to Hotelschool the Hague by contributing to its positioning as an international top ranking institute.

For the research team we are looking for a new professor in the area of Digital Transformation in the Hospitality Industry. Your main responsibility will be to conduct research to further the academic knowledge of and practitioner insights into the consequences of digitization, robotization, data analytics and artificial intelligence on the future of the hospitality industry.

General job description:
Together with the Director of the Research Centre and with fellow Professors you are responsible for developing and conducting practically-relevant research. You organize, conduct and coordinate the execution of research projects and monitor the quality.

In interaction with the hospitality industry you stimulate the innovation of knowledge and professionalization of the teaching staff, in keeping with the strategic vision of Hotelschool The Hague. You take initiatives to disseminate knowledge among students and practitioners, and you strengthen the research culture at Hotelschool The Hague by generating enthusiasm for (your) research among faculty.

You will be teaching bachelor and/or master students about your own research and other areas of your research with a minimum of 15 % of your time.

You are responsible for the research programme within your research line that you will design and implement;

And for the quality of the research and its execution, coaching Bachelor, Master and possibly PhD students, professionalisation of lecturers, dissemination of knowledge and curriculum renewal.

You will make sure your research connects to the industry and students.

Requirements

  • You are an internationally experienced researcher and/or educator in the field of Hospitality Management or adjacent disciplines;
  • You have demonstrable expertise on the impact of the digital transformation on hospitality businesses, operations and professions;
  • You bring a strong academic network and industry contacts to the HTH community;
  • You have academic qualifications, i.e. a relevant Ph.D. degree and you have published in international academic journals in fields pertaining to the proposed research line. 
  • You have an extensive network in the field or have excellent contacts within education and research institutes at home and abroad;
  • You have a demonstrable affinity with and knowledge of the hospitality industry and a proven track record in the acquisition of external research projects
  • You are able to initiate and organise collaborations with companies and institutions for the benefit of conducting research;
  • You have teaching experience at master and/or bachelor level in a field relevant to higher hospitality management education.
  • You have a manifest ability to translate your academic research in an appealing way to hospitality practitioners and hospitality education audience. You are also able to present your work in trade journals
  • You are able to acquire external funding for conducting the research

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 4-6 year.

Following our sector’s collective agreement level 14 or 15 (CAO-HBO) depending on your professional experience and qualifications. The maximum salary in scale 14 is € 6.813,59 or maximum € 7.485,19 in scale 15 gross per month based on a full-time position. We also offer excellent fringe benefits:

  • 428 hours (53 days) of leave with retention of salary per calendar year (FT contract);

We initially offer a 4-6 year contract starting at your earliest convenience. The position is situated equally across both our The Hague and Amsterdam campuses.
