Job description

Members of the Department of Epidemiology at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) regularly advice on the design and planning of (clinical) research and assists on analysis of clinical studies across the UMCG. These studies are varied and include systematic reviews, cohort and longitudinal studies, randomized control trials, and more. As both the number and the complexity of studies is growing, requests for consultancies is increasing and the department has decided to create a dedicated role to support these studies.

Part of the role involves liaising with clinical investigators, providing advice in the design stage, providing advice on sound approaches to statistical analyses, and conducting these analyses where appropriate. In addition, part of the role is dedicated to performing joint research specifically with the research staff of the Department of Neurosurgery. A third component of the role involves conducting methodological research in collaboration with the Unit Head and other relevant parties within the Department of Epidemiology, and contributing to teaching tasks within the department.

Requirements

We are looking for a self-motivated, energetic and enthusiastic individual who is eager to contribute to improving care by helping clinicians to carefully evaluate their research data and who relishes a methodological challenge. You will be in a key position to shape research and make an impact on clinical standards by advising on experimental design through to publishing results.

The post holder will be embedded within the Unit Medical Statistics and will be able to draw on a wealth of statistical expertise in the Department and the Unit, and where appropriate, analyses will be carried out in collaboration with members of the Unit and the Unit Head.

Your profile
- You hold a PhD in (medical) statistics, mathematics, epidemiology or comparable.
- You have demonstrable affinity with medical research, and ideally have experience with medical consultancy.
- You are a team player and an excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing.

The UMCG has a preventive Hepatitis B policy. The UMCG can provide you with the vaccination, should it be required for your position.

In case of specific professions a ‘Certificate of Good Conduct’ is required.

Conditions of employment

Employment basis: Fulltime, temporary for 1 year, with possibilities of renewal after this period. Your salary will be a maximum of € 5.383,- gross per month (scale 11), depending on your qualifications and relevant experience, based on a full-time appointment.
