The Center for European Studies (CES) and the Maastricht Summer School (MSS), part of the Student Services Centre, are looking for an Education Development Officer.

Job description

The Center for European Studies (CES) and the Maastricht Summer School (MSS), part of the Student Services Centre, are looking for an Education Development Officer. 

We are looking for an internationally oriented person with great general knowledge, a broad scope of interests and a keen understanding of higher international education who could start as soon as possible.

What will you do?

The new employee is expected to carry a high degree of responsibility for their own duties, is able to handle tasks efficiently, accurately, works independently, and is able to manage their time well. Main responsibilities are:

  • Monitoring the quality of education, assessment and instructors;
  • Evaluating courses and (coaching) faculty;
  • Assisting faculty and staff with programme, curriculum and course development;
  • Being the contact person for the Academic Board of CES and MSS;
  • Being responsible for course overviews, course descriptions, syllabi and ECTS calculations;
  • Chairing the CES and MSS examination committee;
  • Editing academic handbooks for students and professors;
  • Hosting academic sessions and educational workshops for international students from diverse cultural backgrounds

Requirements

What are we looking for?

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree in the field of Educational Psychology, Educational Sciences, Learning Sciences, Human Resource Development or a related field and have teaching experience, preferably in tertiary education. The candidate will have strong planning and coordination skills and be result orientated, with a demonstrated ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data/results. The candidate will demonstrate a high-level of interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders, including academic and professional staff and international students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Skills in persuasiveness and coaching will also be important within this role, to encourage and facilitate improvements in teaching, programme offerings and student performance. A willingness to cooperate with a diverse and dynamic team and contribute to common goals of the organization, even if outside of the individual’s core duties, is required. Excellent command of the English language (both written and spoken) is required and some knowledge of Dutch is preferred but not mandatory. Experience of the complete Microsoft Office-package and Qualtrics online survey platform is also desirable.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: initially a 1 year contract, potentially extendable as this is permanent position.

Remuneration will be according to standard salary levels, depending on education and relevant work experience. This implies a gross monthly salary of minimum € 2.790,00 and maximum € 4.402,00, according to scale 10 of cao-NU.  Depending on the experience and skills a candidate brings to the position, a starting scale (scale 9 of cao-NU) is a negotiating option. Each year the standard salary is supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8,3%.

This 1-year contract (potentially extendable as this is a permanent position) will be for 4 or 5 days a week. Exact working hours/days will be decided in conjunction with the successful applicant.
