Job description

As Research Grant Advisor of the Faculty of Law, you are responsible for early identification and creation of opportunities for national and European grants for researchers of the Faculty of Law.

You act as a strategic advisor for researchers, research directors and the faculty board. Your primary responsibility is to help researchers identify funding opportunities, to provide guidance to researchers in the application process for these grants, to set up a support structure for researchers and to help them write excellent proposals. You build and maintain a network with external relations form relevant institutes, funders and ministries and act as point of contact for internal and external stakeholders. You work in close collaboration with the grant advisors of the other UM faculties and the UM Research Support Office.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Identify and create opportunities for collaborative research grants at NWO and other national research funders (ministries, KNAW,….) as well as at European (ERC, Horizon Europe…) and regional level;
  • Set up a support structure for researchers on national, regional and European grants;
  • Stimulate researchers to apply for research grants, to effectively collaborate with other researchers and societal stakeholders and coach and support them throughout the application process;
  • Provide information sessions, trainings and workshops about research grants;
  • Provide input and support for policy advice to the research directors and the faculty board and report on the faculty performance concerning research grants;
  • Proactively engage with external contacts like partner institutes, societal stakeholders and relevant agencies and ministries to anticipate new developments and to help in building consortia.

Requirements

Required experience, skills and competencies:

  • University education, at least a Master degree (preferably a PhD) and proven affinity with academic research in law or the social sciences;
  • Broad experience with the support that is needed for attracting research grants;
  • Knowledge of the procedures relating to grants from funding schemes;
  • The capacity to create awareness and to build incentives for researchers to proactively engage in grant schemes;
  • A proven capacity to build up and maintain a network and to make it work for the benefit of the faculty;
  • Open personality and capacity to collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Organization sensitive, a good listener, customer/service orientated;
  • An entrepreneurial, hands-on and open attitude; excellent organisation skills;
  • Proactive, stress-resistant, ability to deliver under peak performance;
  • Excellent verbal and written command of Dutch and English.

You will report to the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University.

Fixed-term contract: Initially for one year, in case of good performance the contract may be extended to a permanent contract. The position is full time. Salary depending upon experience (max. € 5127).
