Job description

The Department of Design, Organisation and Strategy focuses on the interactions between design and organisations with the intention to improve and renew organisations’ strategies and thereby successfully co-create value for individuals, organisations, and society at large. With scholars coming from different domains (e.g., design, engineering, marketing, economics), DOS takes an interdisciplinary perspective on studying design practices in the areas of design, organisation and strategy.

The Department of Design, Organisation and Strategy (DOS) is looking for an interdisciplinary researcher and educator working at the intersection between organizational and entrepreneurship research and the domain of design. The candidate should be engaged with the growing relevance of design within organizational studies and, thus, operate in topic areas like design management, design thinking, design leadership, strategic design, design driven innovation. The candidate should be interested in understanding and advancing how the two fields (organizational studies and design) could benefit from each other through theoretical and methodological cross-pollination. We are looking for a future colleague that reads and publishes in journals from both disciplines and translates relevant and emerging innovation, entrepreneurship and organization theories and practices to DOS design-centered research and education.

Examples of potential areas of research include:
• Investigating the role of design in (corporate) entrepreneurship, especially in tech-driven entrepreneurial innovation.
• Studying the role of design in organizational transformations, with a focus on how design can make organizations more resilient to a rapidly changing environment for instance by facilitating the adoption of new mindsets and processes.
• Exploring new forms of organizations that support and leverage a design-oriented culture to achieve economic, social and environmental sustainability.
• Understanding how the design profession evolves as a consequence of operating in a more strategic context - e.g., new (leadership) roles for designers, new design methods and practices, new forms of impact and value creation.
• Developing or adapting design tools and methods to the purpose of designing organizational structures and processes that enhance (tech-driven) innovation (e.g. prototyping organizational practices and/or socio-technical systems)
