Job description

As Grant Advisor Personal Grants you will provide guidance to researchers in the application process for ERC, VENI-VIDI-VICI or Marie Sklodowksa-Curie grants and you are responsible for the EUR nominations for external prizes. You act as a trusted strategic advisor in this regard towards researchers, research support staff, research directors, deans and the EUR board of directors. Your primary responsibility is to provide guidance to researchers in the application process for these grants, to support them in writing excellent proposals and to train them with the right skills to successfully pass the competition.

You will be embedded for 50% of your time at the EUR central grant support office at Erasmus Research Services (ERS) and for 50% of your time at Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB).

It concerns a temporary position of 7 months due to replacement of a maternity leave at ESSB and a maternity leave at ERS.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • To scout for suitable candidates for personal grant applications;
  • To provide necessary coaching and support to applicants for personal grants;
  • To give and organize feedback to applications;
  • To coordinate information sessions about personal research grants;
  • To coordinate training sessions for applicants of personal research grants, including mock interviews and interview training;
  • To report to senior management of research at the EUR on the university performance concerning personal research grants;
  • To maintain external contacts with relevant agencies to anticipate new developments;
  • To guide the EUR-nominations for external prizes and awards;
  • To communicate about research funding opportunities and developments via the relevant newsletters.

Requirements

Required experience and skills are:

  • University education, at least a Master’s degree
  • Preferably a PhD in social sciences or behavioural sciences
  • Experience with and expertise on the support that is needed to attract personal research grants;
  • Knowledge of the rules and procedures relating to grants from the NWO Talent Scheme, ERC and Marie Sklodowska Curie;
  • Empathic personality that is able to collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Organization sensitive, a good listener, customer/service-oriented;
  • Proactive, stress-resistant, ability to deliver under peak pressure and can put things in perspective.
  • Excellent verbal and written command of Dutch and English (CEFR level C1).

Conditions of employment

It concerns a temporary appointment of 38 hours per week for 7 months, due to a replacement of two maternity leaves. Start date is 1st of February 2021.

You will be embedded at Erasmus Research Services – for the period of February until July 2020 you will be seconded to ESSB for 50% of your time.

In accordance with the conditions applied at Erasmus University Rotterdam as indicated in the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO NU) of the Dutch universities, the salary is dependent on the candidate’s experience and is set at a maximum of CAO NU scale 11 with a minimum of  € 3.746,- and a maximum of € 5.127,- gross per month, on a fulltime basis. In addition, EUR pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3% and offers excellent secondary benefits, like a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision and we offer partially paid parental leave. Employees can also use EUR facilities, such as the Erasmus sports center and the University library.

Erasmus Research Services (ERS) has recently been established as a support organization for researchers in order to achieve the university’s ambitions on research and impact. ERS is there to help researchers during the preparation and execution of research projects. Therefore, a comprehensive set of services is currently being set up encompassing amongst others, grant support, business development & knowledge transfer, data management support, legal support, ethics, open science and responsible research intelligence. ERS works in close collaboration with research support staff at faculties and other EUR central services. We do so by setting up support communities under coordination of ERS.

The Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB) is home to a vast diversity of scientific disciplines: public administration, pedagogical sciences, psychology and sociology.
