The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) is currently recruiting an Education Specialist. We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague with a passion for educational quality, who is a creative problem solver and has a collegial attitude, to join our team at the Educational Development and Policy cluster. Job description

The Education Specialist is part of our Educational Development and Policy cluster. This cluster stands for theory-based and data-driven support to all FASoS (educational) Staff. In particular the Faculty Board, Programme Directors, and Educational Programme Committees. Our aim is to optimize education at FASoS by collaborating with the relevant stakeholders.

You support and advise the Faculty Board, Educational Bodies, Programme Directors and (teaching) Staff on a broad range of educational matters. Topics include curriculum design and assessment, translating educational research to educational practice, effective use of digital education tools within the educational philosophy, teacher professionalization, study success, and more. The position is linked to the other positions in the team (i.e. policy advisors, quality assurance officer, educationalist, data-analyst and it specialist) in the field of educational science.

You work together with support staff, academic (teaching) staff, and students to achieve high-level education at FASoS. This includes a broad range of tasks, such as identifying areas for improvement concerning the quality of education, the development of courses, and contribute to teacher professionalization with the focus on faculty needs (especially in the digital/online setting). You signal needs of the organisation and its stakeholders and act on this together with team members. You work together with teaching as well as support staff from within and outside FASoS. As a team member you contribute to a critical and constructive collaboration within the team, and participate regularly in (inter)faculty meetings and projects.

We are looking for a “pragmatic idealist” who likes to collaborate with scientific staff/content experts on developing and improving education and processes surrounding education. You are sensitive to stakeholder interests and you can think out of the box when it comes to solving problems.

We are looking for an independent, proactive, team player who:

  • has experience in educational research, with a critical and positive attitude;
  • has strong analytical skills and is able to motivate and convince;
  • is knowledgeable about her/his own competencies and seeks help through collaboration when necessary;
  • is knowledgeable about educational processes, and governance at a university;
  • has an academic degree that matches the job description;
  • has strong communication skills and is fluent in English and Dutch (level C1).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 jaar.

We offer a 0.8 fte appointment as an Education Specialist, for one years. In case of good performance and equal prospects for the faculty, extension of the employment is a possibility. Remuneration will be according to standard salary levels, depending on education and relevant work experience, in salary scale 10 (between € 2.709 and € 4.274,- gross per month, based on a fulltime appointment) according to the collective labour agreement (CAO) of Dutch Universities, including 8% holiday pay and an 8,3% end of year payment. A preliminary scale might apply in case the suitable candidate has yet to develop certain professional skills.

Starting date: 1 February 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter
