Job description

The TechMed Centre houses several clinical environments for research, development and education that are flexibly extendable with additional clinical equipment, simulators and phantoms. It is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, ranging from research labs, preclinical testbeds and simulated hospital environments. TechMed is particularly active in the area of imaging and diagnostics, biorobotics, medical physiology, innovative bioengineering technologies (such as 3D bioprinting techniques and bioartifical pancreas devices), and the assessment of the effectiveness of personalized health technologies.

Facilities

  • Operating theatres compliant with radiation safety regulations.
  • Imaging labs equipped with clinical imaging devices including two MRI systems: 0.25T (for imaging in vertical in supine position), and 1.5T clinical MRI.
  • Recognized central data storage under relevant ISO and NEN certification.
  • 3D print lab facilities including several 3D printers.

Within Science and Technology (S&T) school, the research group of Magnetic in Detection & Imaging (MD&I) is centred around two lines: handheld magnetic instruments for clinical applications and clinical MRI.

The challenge

At MD&I we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic assistant professor with a relevant post-doctoral experience to develop a coherent research line with a strong focus on interventional MRI, e.g. on robotic oncological and cardiac interventions.

You will publish in international refereed journals, present at conferences, apply for external funding and engage in international and interdisciplinary collaboration and in outreach activities at the University of Twente. You will be teaching courses on MRI in the programme of biomedical engineering and technical medicine at both bachelor and master level, and will be involved in the supervision of students during their graduation projects. The initial division of tasks will be an equal amount of research and teaching.

Essential responsibilities. Combine knowledge of MR imaging physics, engineering, computer science and clinical needs to explore, design, develop and test MRI-compatible procedures and devices for interventions. Work with clinicians, technology researchers, and regulatory affairs to define and conduct research studies and gather clinical proof.
