Job description

We are looking for two new colleagues to help us with our teaching needs. The addition of new teachers provides us with an opportunity to further enhance our ambition to be one of the best educational departments in the field, where a collaborative spirit and intellectual curiosity are highly valued. We are looking for ambitious, but also collegial scholars who share our passion for teaching. We are interested in colleagues with a quantitative or marketing strategy background, but also in candidates with a more behavioral profile. Candidates are required to have a PhD in Marketing or related area (either completed or with a fixed date for the defense) at the start of the contract, and should be fluent in English. Being able to speak Dutch is an advantage.

Your duties
  • Teaching (in English or Dutch) courses on marketing and related topics (including courses and/or tutorials like consumer behavior, behavioral influencing, statistics) in our MSc, BSc and executive programs.
  • Coordination of courses, and eventually participation in project groups or committees within the Department or Faculty.
  • Supervising MSc and/or BSc Theses

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel and amounts €2,790 (scale 10) per month during the first year and increases to €5,127 (scale 11) per month during the fourth year, based on a full-time employment. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.2 FTE.

The position involves full time teaching. If necessary, you should be willing to acquire a basic qualification in teaching ('BKO') as demanded by Dutch universities. The position of Lecturer is initially a two-year position, with the possibility of extension.

About the Marketing Department
We are a research oriented group that offers a stimulating environment and a dynamic international culture. Our faculty is a highly collaborative group and open, and  publishes in the major marketing journals, as well as several other (top level) outlets in economics, psychology, decision making, and interdisciplinary journals. We have also organized a number of high quality conferences and symposia, including a JAMS Thought Leadership conference (2017), the inaugural IMRC conference (2018, in collaboration with Journal of Interactive Marketing), and our VU consumer research symposium (2016, 2018, 2021).

The department offers courses at all levels and participates in the school’s PhD program. Our MSc in Marketing (in English, 150-200 students) was rated best master in The Netherlands in the 2018 annual Master survey. In addition, we offer a part-time MSc in Marketing for executives, and teach courses in the various (Research) Master and BSc programs in the fields of business, economics and data science.
