Job description

We are looking for a PhD student to join the group of Van der Heide at the department of Radiation Oncology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. Research in our group is focused on the use of MRI to guide radiotherapy of prostate cancer. In the FLAME project we study the use of a focal radiotherapy boost to improve the outcome for patients with prostate cancer. In your project, you will develop MRI-guided radiotherapy techniques to increase precision of focal boosting of prostate cancer to improve oncological outcome and reduce toxicity.The work involves development of advanced treatment planning strategies for MR-linac systems and evaluation in clinical studies.

Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD student who has a great interest in radiotherapy. A master’s degree in biomedical engineering or equivalent background is essential. Good programming skills are required and interest in radiotherapy treatment planning is appreciated. 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 4 years.

You will be part of the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), a world-class cancer research institute with many international employees and the excellent Antoni van Leeuwenhoek cancer hospital. You will be a member of a team that combines enthusiastic clinicians, physicists, biomedical engineers and computer scientists. You will participate in collaborations of researchers at the NKI and international centers within the FLAME and the MR-linac consortia.  
You will have the opportunity to follow high-quality courses offered by the OOA oncology graduate school throughout your PhD. We offer a 4-year contract. The gross salary for per month for our PhD-student will start at €2.882 and will increase each year according to the standard PhD scales. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labor Agreement for Hospitals).
