The Department of Social Psychology of Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is looking for:
Two Assistant Professors in Economic/Organizational Psychology, (0,8 - 1,0 fte, 4 years, fixed-term)
Start date: July/August 2021

Job description

The department’s research program centers on Social Decision Making: Department members seek to understand how social, economic and organizational settings shape individual and interdependent decisions. The department makes use of diverse and state-of–the-art research facilities (multi-use lab spaces, on-line data collection, mobile computing, psychophysiological equipment, and big data) in addition to a dedicated research support staff (lab assistants, programming and technical support). The department’s educational program offers courses in the Dutch Bachelor of Psychology, the International Bachelor of Psychology, the master's programs in Economic Psychology and Work and Organizational Psychology, and the Social Psychology track in the research master's degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Successful candidates have affinity with basic, experimental or applied research (field and/or lab). We are searching for candidates who are interested in topics in Economic Psychology, Work and Organizational Psychology, and Social Psychology that advance insights into social decision making. Our ideal candidate contributes to the department’s collaborative atmosphere and seeks to sustain our shared commitment to provide an excellent education for our students. 

To further strengthen our teaching and research profile, we seek applicants who ideally

  1. completed a PhD in social, economic or organizational psychology, 
  2. are able to teach Economic Psychology and Work and Organizational Psychology courses and supervise theses and internships to students in these programs, 
  3. have experience with societal impact (e.g., collaboration with stakeholders in the field, contributions to policy) as this will help cater for students’ internships.

Requirements

  • Research (approximately 40%): we expect you to conduct and publish research and share our commitment to produce solid and transparent research.
  • Teaching (approximately 60%):  we expect you to supervise students at BSc and MSc level, teach a variety of courses at both the Bachelors and Masters’ level, and obtain a basic teaching qualification (BKO). Most courses are taught in English; however, some bachelor courses require proficiency in Dutch. Dutch proficiency is thus an advantage but not a requirement.
  • We expect you to contribute to academic citizenship (e.g., regular office hours, participate in weekly lab meetings, colloquia). 

Conditions of employment

Tilburg University is rated among the top Dutch employers, offering excellent terms of employment. We offer a 4 year fixed-term contract. Start date: July/August 2021. The full-time gross salary ranges between € 3746,- and € 5127,- per month (not including various allowances). Employees from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. Tilburg University is an equal opportunity employer.
