The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) in Amsterdam is a Comprehensive Cancer Centre combining a hospital and research laboratories in a single independent organization. The group of Benjamin Rowland works in the Division of Cell Biology focussing on chromosome biology.

How can meters of DNA fit in a small nucleus?
Which proteins are involved in genome organisation?

We are looking for a Research technician whose interest lies in fundamental research. You will be part of a team and are responsible for a part of the research line. Together with your colleagues you will determine the design of the experiments, perform the execution and you will discuss the results. The experiments will mostly be of a biochemical or (cell) biological approach, as also genomics-based experiments as Hi-C and ChIP-seq will be performed. Beside experimental tasks, you are also involved in the ordering and in the maintenance of the equipment. We are looking for an enthusiastic person, which is eager to learn and is willing to take this challenge with us. 

Team 
You will be working in the division of Cell Biology, in the group of Benjamin Rowland. The research will focus on chromosome biology, and specifically on proteins that are involved in genome organization and how they are regulated.

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled, and proactive {role description} with the following skills:

  • A Bsc or MSc degree in Life Sciences/Biomedical Sciences;
  • Tissue Culture, PCR, NGS, microscopy and cloning;
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English; 
  • You are a team-player. 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

The appointment will initially be for 1 year and the gross salary per month will range from €  2.319,- en € 3.322,- depending on your previous work experience. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals).
Your travel expenses will be reimbursed at € 0,08 per km (with a maximum of 30km single-way) which can be completed until € 0,19 per km at the end of the year by using our MKA-ruling – Flexible Employment Benefit. Free parking at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek is also part of the package. Personnel is stimulated to use public transport and bicycle and therefore we offer an interesting arrangement for bikers and/or discount on the NS-business card. As employer we contribute to 50% of your retirement at the Pensioenfonds Zorg & Welzijn and provide a collective discount at the health insurance IZZ and Zilveren Kruis and insurance for incapability for work.
