The department Dean of Engagement at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) is looking for a Director Impact and Engagement.

Job description

Are you ready to lead the unit's strategic agenda, it's initiatives and the people who fall under this section? As the new Director of Impact and Engagement, you will lead the development of policies and infrastructure needed to foster engagement and partnerships at RSM. You'll work closely with Dean of Engagement and Partnerships as well as RSM's research centers, and serve as line manager of RSM's team of engagement support professionals. You'll also be working collaboratively across RSM and EUR, and ensure the effective delivery of engagement support to the RSM community of more than 350 faculty members and PhD students in management.

Your main tasks
In this role, you will:
  • manage RSM's team of engagement support professionals so it operates in innovative ways with a strong stakeholder focus - this involves co-ordination with the other staff supporting RSM engagement such as the Director of Grants; the corporate and alumni relations office; the marketing and communications team, and others.
  • develop and foster a collaborative, caring, and inspiring working environment, in which engagement support professionals feel safe and empowered to be critical and creative
  • set goals and objectives for the engagement support professionals, which will be used as a basis for regular performance assessments
  • manage the financial resources available to RSM engagement, including the management of the annual and multi-annual budget cycle
  • contribute to the development and implementation of policies, standards, and transformation initiatives related to topics such as impact and engagement
  • provide advice and support to RSM's Dean of Engagement and Partnerships to implement strategic engagement objectives and to promote (scholarly) impact
  • maintain strong collaborative working relationships with researchers, academic units, centres, and relevant professional support units, to ensure the effective delivery of engagement support
  • develop and implement effective engagement strategies and activities to inform researchers about the services and resources available to them
  • implement and sustain systems, including engagement information and application systems, to ensure the effective performance of engagement support tasks
  • co-ordinate the periodic assessment and review of the impact performance of RSM, for example in the context of accreditations, to ensure that external expectations are met
  • develop and nurture strong relationships with outside stakeholders such as corporate and non-corporate partners, and other academic institutions.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who have:
  • knowledge of the issues associated with academic engagement and impact
  • experience in creating, implementing, and monitoring strategies and services to support researchers in achieving impact
  • experience with managing at a strategic and operational level
  • proven ability to develop and implement innovative and stakeholder-centric strategies, policies and processes and to ensure stakeholder-focused service delivery
  • the ability to build consensus and advocate for plans and strategies effectively in a complex matrix organisation
  • a mindset that drives for continues high performance and continuous improvement
  • minimally a master degree, but preference goes to candidates with a PhD degree
  • strong communication skills in both written and spoken English (level CEFR C1)
  • ability to speak and read Dutch or commitment to learn quickly
  • strong analytical skills, the ability to support policy proposals with appropriate analyses, and to measure the effectiveness of policies using the right metrics
  • minimum of five years' experience in the field, preferably in a higher education setting (and ideally in a business school context), or in the public domain.

Conditions of employment

The conditions of employment comply with the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities (CAO NU). We offer a full-time contract, initially for one year with a possibility of extension.

Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 4,538 up to a maximum of € 5,826 gross per month (scale 12 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.
