Are you a talented researcher in the field of mass spectrometry and passionate about bioanalytical chemistry? Do you enjoy developing and applying state-of-the-art MS and spectroscopic technologies to solve challenging biomolecular and life-science questions? Please apply at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Job description

For this position, we are looking for a tenure track assistant professor, who is experienced in biomolecular mass spectrometry. The position is embedded within the division of BioAnalytical Chemistry (BAC) and comprises research, teaching and management. The related research is within the framework of bioanalytical sciences applied to the characterization of biomolecular structure and interactions, for example within the field of (glyco)proteomics, glycomics, metabolomics, or other complex biomolecular networks. Your research will include the development and application of advanced analytical techniques, where mass spectrometry, advanced photo dissociation techniques (UVPD, IRMPD), molecular spectroscopy, ion mobility and/or advanced separation techniques are predominating methods to answer your scientific questions.

Your duties
The tenure track position is starting at the level of assistant professor in the areas of research, education and management (40%-40%-20%), and comprises, amongst others, the following responsibilities:
  • Your research should be closely connected to, strengthen or complement the BAC research program, thereby we encourage you to seek collaborations and synergies
  • Acquire and manage research funding, to develop your own research line, and to demonstrate your creative research output by publishing in well-recognized scientific journals
  • (Co-)supervise the research of postdoctoral researchers, PhD candidates, Master’s and Bachelor's students
  • Participate in the educational program by teaching 2-3 courses a year from the BAC portfolio embedded in the department’s BSc and MSc programs
  • Contribute to the division management and departmental activities
