In the coming years, Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) intends to strengthen its European and international research and education profile, a.o, by further developing the ‘European University of Post-Industrial Cities’ (UNIC Alliance). As part of this ambition Erasmus University wants to establish a permanent project- and program managers pool to deal with complex and large European and National funded projects.

In this setting, we are looking for a Program Assistant for EU programs UNIC and UNIC4ER (0,8 fte):

UNIC is a European University network of Post-Industrial Cities (www.unic.euOpent extern) , forming an alliance between 8 universities; Erasmus University Rotterdam (coordinator), Ruhr University Bochum (Germany), Koc University Istanbul (Turkey), University of Deusto (Bilbao, Spain), University of Zagreb (Croatia), University of Liege (Belgium), Cork University (Ireland) and Oulu University (Finland). The aim of the first phase of the UNIC alliance project is to establish a structural and university-wide collaboration that should bring unique European learning, teaching and working experiences to students, staff and researchers from all 8 universities. UNIC will develop activities in the area of mobility, impact and inclusion.

UNIC4ER aims to develop a collaborative approach and structure for engaged research across these eight universities and their cities, and thus add a joint research dimension to UNIC. With UNIC4ER we are now expanding UNIC’s ambition with a focus on European research collaboration around the concept of Engaged Research. We believe that developing a research and innovation dimension within UNIC around the notion of engaged research will help achieve our UNIC ambition of shaping universities that can lead post-industrial cities into a future of inclusive and resilient cities, and training the leaders that are to guide our cities into this future. This project supports the realization of this additional but crucial pillar by formulating a joint strategy, taking coordinated/aligned action and setting up a structure and platform.

Job description

We are looking for an all-round  Program Assistant  for supporting the newly established UNIC European University Alliance, including the newly awarded Horizon Europe program UNIC4ER.

The program assistant will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the UNIC team of 5-6 persons leading the implementation of UNIC and UNIC4ER at EUR and at the other universities. This includes internal management, such as coordination and administration of project meetings, as well as external management of meetings and events of the  European consortium.
  • Coordinating the EU project management of both UNIC and UNIC4ER. This includes managing and coordinating compliance with European guidelines and frameworks for the implementation of both UNIC and UNIC4ER.
  • Managing the communication between the UNIC and UNIC4ER consortium and the European Commission funding agencies.
  • Providing support in the financial management and control of the project (together with a financial controller)

Your position will be embedded in Erasmus Research Services (ERS). You will report substantively to the scientific coordinator of the UNIC and UNIC4ER project and in line to the head Grant Support Office of ERS.

Requirements

We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:

  • You have a background in higher education (Dutch HBO+) and/or able to work on this level based on your working experience
  • You have experience in providing solid administrative support to project management
  • You are a very pro-active person who enjoys bringing structure in new projects and teams.
  • You have strong organizational skills; you are result oriented and focused on getting things done
  • You are an excellent, clear communicator with demonstrated ability to communicate
    and coordinate among internal and external stakeholders of various levels and backgrounds
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication and storytelling skills in English
  • You have experience (or great affinity with) working in an international and multicultural environment
  • You master English at C1, C2 level and if non-Dutch you communicate in Dutch at B2 level.

Conditions of employment

Employments starts preferably  the 1st September. The conditions of employment comply with the collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). We offer a 0,8 fte contract, initially for 1 year. In case of good performance, the contract can be extended to three years.

Salary is subject to educational background and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 2.920 gross per month and up to a maximum of € 4.012gross per month (scale 9 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.

Erasmus University Rotterdam offers attractive terms of employment, including a holiday allowance of 8%, a year-end payment of 8.3% and 41 holidays per year based on a full-time appointment. In addition, EUR takes part in the ABP pension scheme, and we also offer partially paid parental leave. Moreover, EUR staff members can make use of the EUR facilities, including the Erasmus Sports Centre and the University Library.

Erasmus Research Services (ERS)

Erasmus Research Services (ERS) supports researchers to perform excellent research and to generate impact with their research. The support of ERS is defined as progressive and forward looking and drives a future oriented university wide research and impact agenda. The following areas of support or embedded within ERS: Business Development, Grant Support, Legal Counsels, Open Science, Research Data Management, Ethics Review and Research Intelligence. ERS is a relative young service department within Erasmus University and steadily building and extended its service portfolio. ERS provides support to all faculties of Erasmus University (occasionally to Erasmus Medical Center). As part of the support portfolio ERS will set up a program and project managers pool to deal with complex and large projects. This vacancy will fill in the first position in this pool.
