Teaching is our core business at the Laboratory of Phytopathology. We educate bachelor, master and PhD students, and we do this collectively.

Plant pathogens threaten food production. They impact human societies and destabilize the ecology of natural systems. In this research line, we typically think about solving big problems by developing and contributing to future disease management strategies. These solutions should be sustainable, and our ambition is to foster system changes. This requires multidisciplinary teams to unveil causal microbial complexes of disease syndromes in various crops, combined with disciplinary expertise to unravel fundamental biology revolving around plant - pathogen interactions.

Projects include effector discovery aiming at pathogen evolution and dissemination, modulation of ecological niches and tool development for breeding programs in various crops. Consequently, we are keen to identify and deploy resistance genes, and to mechanistically understand how they contribute to durable resistance. Hence, we connect fundamental discoveries with application, mostly in public-private partnerships.

Therefore, this new team member has a broad interest and expertise in plant pathology, with a keen interest in perennial crops and is a typical team player, building coalitions, grounded in (inter)national collaboration with other academic institutions, the private sector and universities.

The candidate will be placed in a Tenure Track trajectory and should fulfil the requirements established by Wageningen University for this position about scientific publications, project acquisition and educational activities.

• You acquire, lead and implement together with the chair holder and other staff members innovative and creative (inter-)national research projects for our group.
• You collaborate with colleagues and supervise PhD students, BSc and MSc theses and you develop and teach courses;
