As a Lecturer, you will primarily contribute to teaching in the Bachelor programme, Human Geography & Planning. Your main teaching tasks will likely be the supervision of Bachelor projects and tutoring in courses such as: People, Place and Culture; Introduction to Academic Research; and Methods of Academic Research. We will adjust the exact teaching requirements to your background, experience and interests.

Requirements

• a master’s or PhD degree in Social or Cultural Geography, Anthropology, Sociology or other area of social science
• experience in teaching in higher education, and awareness of and willingness to use the latest innovations in teaching techniques
• in possession of a University Teaching Qualification or preparedness to acquire this qualification within a reasonable timeframe
• a willingness to participate in appropriate Faculty committees and/or other management tasks
• fluency in English.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 36 months.

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

• a salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of € 2,790 to a maximum of € 4,402 (salary scale 10) gross per month for a full-time position
• on top of that income, you will receive an 8% holiday allowance and an annual bonus of 8.3%
• you will be appointed for a period of 3 years.

Faculty of Spatial Sciences

The Faculty of Spatial Sciences consists of approximately 100 members of staff, 100 PhD students and around 1.000 undergraduate students. The Faculty offers a vibrant academic environment with an international staff and extensive experience in working within international research projects. We focus on high quality teaching and research in the fields of social and economic geography, demography, and spatial planning. With a Faculty slogan of ‘making places better together’ and an overarching research theme of 'towards Wellbeing, Innovation and Spatial Transformation' (tWIST), it is our mission to produce research which is world-leading, distinctive, and policy-relevant. With two bachelor and seven master programmes, we provide a wide range of courses within the wider field of spatial sciences.

The faculty consists of four departments. Department of Economic Geography is responsible for the master programmes in Real Estate Studies and Economic Geography. Its research relates to issues in economic regional development, real estate and housing. The Department of Planning & Environment is involved in the master programmes Society, Sustainability & Planning and Environmental & Infrastructure Planning. Research at this department focuses on issues of institutional design for purposeful interventions within the human environment. The Department of Demography runs master programmes on Population Studies, with a life-course approach central to its research. The Cultural Geography department has a research focus on issues of place, identity and wellbeing. All departments contribute to the bachelor programmes entitled ‘Spatial Planning & Design’ and ‘Human Geography & Planning’.

The Faculty of Spatial Sciences of the University of Groningen is looking to appoint three fixed-term lecturers, in the fields of: 1. Spatial Planning & Design; 2. Human Geography and Planning; and, 3. Environmental Planning.
