Job description

The department of Marketing & Supply Chain Management (School of Business and Economics) is committed to providing high quality education and to conducting high quality research. We invite candidates with a PhD in Marketing (or related fields like computer sciences, social sciences, psychology, … ) to apply. We particularly invite applications from candidates with expertise in Digitalization and/or Data Analytics and a willingness to engage with others inside and outside the department to expand this research line further. The candidate should be able to conduct research that is publishable in international top marketing journals. This is a tenure track position with a duration of 6 years, with the possibility of extension and permanency depending on your performance. The clear criteria and process of our tenure track take into account the candidate’s  performance in research, education, impact, citizenship, service, and funding acquisition. We are looking for a high-potential candidate who is committed to excellence in teaching and research. The candidate will teach (post)graduate, undergraduate or executive courses through our face-to-face, problem-based learning (PBL) instructional format, supervise Master and PhD students and contribute to the department's educational development activities. The candidate should be able to conduct research that is publishable in international top journals. Moreover, the candidate will be empowered to transfer of the department’s knowledge and expertise to the outside world (valorization), for example via executive teaching, involvement in industry associations or company projects.

Your activities

Educational Innovation is high on the strategic agenda of the School of Business and Economics, University Maastricht. A critical success factor is the development and implementation of state-of-the-art courses in undergraduate and graduate programs. The candidate will serve as a course coordinator for at least two courses. This implies the candidate is responsible for the development, coordination and assessment of high quality courses. Given the nature of PBL, the course coordinator is also responsible for the coaching and instruction of tutors.

In addition to teaching responsibility, the candidate will also work on independent scientific research aimed at international peer-reviewed journals. The department offers a stimulating research environment and encourages its members to build their (inter)national research network. As a result, the candidate will participate in our research and educational development activities, and is receptive for team work within our department, school, and university.

Apart from education and research, our school also recognizes and rewards societal impact and academic leadership. It is expected to transfer knowledge and expertise to the outside world (societal impact). For example, through projects for companies via one of our innovative outreach centers (e.g. Brightlands Institute for Supply Chain Innovation, Service Science Factory)  or involvement in our executive programs. Finally, all faculty takes responsibility for administrative services at the department or school at large (academic leadership). The allocation of tasks is done by matching needs of the department and personal preferences.

Requirements

We are looking for the following in the ideal candidate, by the time of appointment:

  • A PhD or equivalent advanced degree in Marketing (or subdomains such as consumer behaviour, services marketing, marketing modelling, marketing strategy, digital marketing management, or a related field);
  • Experience in teaching and/or coordinating (under) graduate courses or thesis supervision;
  • A strong potential in research, evidenced by a track record of scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals or promising work in process;
  • A Teaching Qualification Higher Education (Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs (BKO)) or equivalent. In case the candidate does not have this qualification yet, we expect the candidate to be willing to acquire this.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with students, colleagues, and corporates at a variety of levels in a collaborative, effective manner;
  • A track record of collaborating with external stakeholders;
  • A team player with the ability to connect people and with the desire to achieve common goals.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 year Tenure track  (to accommodate for potential leaves a 10 year contract will be provided).

  • Salary scale 11 (salary range is depicted in Academic Transfer €3.746 - €5.127 gross per month, based on 1.0 fte ) depending on your qualifications and work experience, based on our Collective Labor Agreement (CAO-NU); on top of this, there is an 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3 % end-of-the-year allowance of your annual income gross. 
  • Fulltime position (max. 38 hours per week) as as an Assistant Professor in a highly international environment with an inclusive culture;
  • Non-Dutch applicant could be eligble for a favourable tax treatment (30% tax benefite rule);
  • Relocation allowances when moving into the Maastricht area (the entire area within 40 km driving distance from the School);
