Job description

The Health & Society Group (HSO) has a tenure-track opening for an innovative researcher and teacher in population health, the social determinants of health, and health promotion. Our group Health and Society - WUR uses a social sciences lens to study and intervene on the political, behavioural and psychological influences affecting health. We conduct interdisciplinary research across a range of settings (e.g., communities, organizations) in resource-poor and -rich environments. We equip our students at all levels with the theories, tools, and methods to address those influences and improve population health. If you are looking for an intellectually-vibrant and supportive environment in which to teach and build your research in the social determinants of health, Wageningen University & Research and the HSO are the perfect place for you.

The Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Health & Society has the potential to deepen and expand HSO research and teaching along a number of dimensions. Some areas of particular interest include social inequalities in nutrition and the gut microbiome, health care as a SDOH, global one health, and the implementation sciences, with a focus on participatory and citizen science approaches. We will also consider researchers studying more broadly climate change, biodiversity and health, and the social determinants of mental health and physical activity. Besides the courses that HSO teaches in the Health and Society degree programs at WUR (e.g., Systematic Reviews), we are also offering new courses in the Data Sciences for Health Promotion and Global One Health.

In this challenging career trajectory, you acquire, lead, and collaborate with others to implement international and national research projects, teach courses and supervise PhD students and BSc and MSc theses, and contribute to the further development of the Health & Society Group. In addition, you will be expected to engage professionally with academic and non-academic audiences to attain social impact with your research.
