Job description

The Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) has recently launched a comprehensive Academic Outreach and Advancement Programme (‘Connecting Our Future’) as one of the ways to implement our new strategy “The Erasmian Way, Creating Positive Societal Impact”.
The goal of this programme is to increase the proportion of young people from underrepresented groups attending university, and to improve and support their wellbeing and success at the university.

The programme consists of three Action Lines. We aim to:
1) Elaborate and strengthen our connection with underrepresented primary and secondary school pupils and students in the greater Rotterdam area through several outreach activities

2) Expand and improve student-centered support at university for these groups 

3) Build new blocks by enabling EUR scientists, teachers, and students to develop, implement and research equity-based opportunity programmes and activities that contribute to the first and second Action Lines.

Within Action Line 2, we intend to expand student-centered support for historically underrepresented students along their student journey at EUR.

As the project lead, you will collect information on the needs and wishes of the students and will use these findings to further develop existing, and possibly implement new, student support services with the aim of facilitating wellbeing and academic success of our students. You will work closely with various internal and external stakeholders and collaborate with other programmes at the university, e.g., EUR students, EUR student support services, and external organizations.  

The Academic Outreach and Advancement Programme is part of the D&I Office (D&I@EUR), and operates in close cooperation with the Pre Academic Programme, the Student Wellbeing Programme, and EUR student support services.

As the project lead student-centered support, you:

  • Are in charge of gathering the information on the needs and wishes of historically underrepresented students with respect to student support at EUR
  • Are end- responsible for developing (customizing) student-centered support at EUR with the aim of providing a safe landing and increasing wellbeing, academic success, and sense of belonging among EUR students
  • Ensure that the developed (customized) student-centered support at EUR prepares EUR students for a successful transition into the labor market

Requirements

To strengthen our Outreach team, you:

  • Have a MSc degree in business, educational sciences, or a closely related field
  • Have at least three years of work experience, preferably in the field of (higher) education and have affinity with university governance context
  • Have experience with or proven affinity with outreach / diversity and inclusion
  • Can interact and network effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Can translate research findings into ideas for policy
  • Are analytical
  • Are result-oriented, pro-active, and decisive
  • Are a team player, but can also work well autonomously
  • Are fluent in verbal and written Dutch and English (C1 level)

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

We offer a contract that is initially for one year based on 0.8 fte -1.0 fte, with a possibility of extension.  Your salary is dependent on your specific knowledge and experience, and will be calculated on the basis of full-time salary ranging between € 2.790,- and € 4.402,- gross per month, on a fulltime basis. (scale 10, CAO NU). A full-time appointment at EUR is 38 hours per week.

In addition, EUR pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3% and offers excellent secondary benefits, and a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision, and we offer partially paid parental leave, fully paid extended birth leave for partners, a personal education budget, work-life balance coaches and more. The General Management Directorate

The General Management Directorate (Algemene Bestuursdienst, ABD) is the central staff organisation responsible for the organisation and support of EUR’s policy and administration at the institutional level. ABD supports the Executive Board in fulfilling its responsibilities with regard to the quality, accessibility and financing of EUR’s education and research programmes. ABD handles the joint design of integrated policy, ensures the timely submission of policy within decision-making procedures and the implementation of the adopted policy measures and constantly monitors and evaluates developments in the interest of further improvement. ABD comprises the departments of Academic Affairs (AZ) including D&I Office, Corporate Planning & Control (CPC), Administrative Affairs (BZ), Legal Affairs (JZ) and the Chief Information Office (CIO). The independent university publication Erasmus Magazine also falls under ABD in organisational terms. The management directorate is headed by the Director of the General Management Directorate, who also serves as Secretary of the Executive Board.
