Job description

The Molecular Materials group at Radboud University has developed a synthetic hydrogel with many interesting applications in and beyond the biomedical field. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will develop and optimise the synthesis and analysis of the material to allow larger scale production. Additionally, you will develop chemistry to expand the portfolio of material. In addition to lab work, you will contribute to the business development of the hydrogel, setting up contacts with potential partners.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in chemistry and ample experience with synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Affinity with materials science and/or scaling-up of reactions.
  • Affinity with business development.
  • Excellent communication skills, in written and spoken English.
  • Bright and original ideas.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

  • Employment: 0.8 - 1.0 FTE.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €2,836 and a maximum of €4,474 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 10).
  • In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • Duration of the contract: 1 year.
  • The intended start date is 1 September 2021.

The Systems Chemistry group is active at the interface between chemistry and materials science. The Molecular Materials group is part of Systems Chemistry and focuses on biological applications of soft, polymer-based materials. The group consists of chemists, who further develop the materials and introduce new features, and cell biologists who study the biomedical application of the materials.

You will be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Molecules and Materials. This institute is one of the major research institutes of the Faculty of Science at Radboud University, comprising 19 research groups in areas ranging from condensed matter science to organic chemistry and biochemistry. The institute focuses on fundamental research with a view to developing applications for society, and educates the next generation of leaders in science and innovation. IMM distinguishes itself from peer institutes through close collaborations and rich interactions between chemists and physicists and/or experimentalists and theorists, and also through its excellent infrastructures.
