Job description

As a manager you will be accountable for initiating, implementing, and monitoring the progress of multidisciplinary projects that organize the implementation of our intervention projects in organizations and education institutions. You are also responsible for defining the implementation projects, organising the projects and will coordinate the internal organisation of the Centre, as well as third parties and the employees working on the projects to realise the project's goals within the boundaries of costs, quality, organisation and communication. You will communicate about the progress of the projects with the director of the centre and the director impact and engagement. A large and critical part of this function is the aspect of people management.

Role

The Erasmus Centre for Study and Career Success makes use of an intervention programme that has shown to be successful in raising students' academic performance and retention rate. The goal of this intervention is to help as many students as possible to reach their full potential and to reduce performance and retention inequality in higher and secondary education. Goal-setting research has been conducted in RSM since 2011 and is currently being rolled out at various education institutions in the Netherlands and abroad. Through this intervention, this university centre aims to be a force for positive change and increase its impact and engagement with society.

The Centre's activities mainly encompass the goal-setting intervention, largely focusing on the continuous development and improvement of this intervention and its distribution to education institutions. A large part of the Centre's time is dedicated to collaborating with institutions that are willing and able to implement the intervention for further research, thereby facilitating this entire process and the aspects related to it (e.g., legal, finances). In addition, the Centre is involved in the application for European funded projects and preparations for events, presentations, and workshops about goal-setting in general or the intervention in specific. Furthermore the Centre is preparing to merge with other university centres to achieve economies of scale. To that end, the Centre is looking for a projects and operations manager.

Your main tasks:
  • People management,
  • Being the linchpin within the team,
  • Keeping an overview of the projects and monitoring progress,
  • Fulfilling the role of intermediary between the director of the Centre and the project employees,
  • Guiding and supporting project employees (such as project coordinators, student assistants, and researchers),
  • Developing the strategic direction for the upcoming years,
  • Managing the financial and legal aspects of the Centre,
  • Managing the IT aspects of projects,
  • Planning and structuring tasks,
  • Managing time,
  • Maintaining contact with participating or interested parties,
  • Business development,
  • New product development,
  • Develop new projects helping the Centre to expand and diversify its research and operations.

Requirements

Required qualifications:
  • Higher professional education (equivalent to a master's degree),
  • Proven experience with project management,
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, ambition to grow the project,
  • Enjoys the aspect of relationship (or stakeholder) management,
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Dutch for internal and external communications (C1),
  • Affinity with academics and the academic world,
  • Leadership skills, decisiveness, people-oriented,
  • Appreciation for academic research linked to real-world problems,
  • Desire to create an impact on the academic community and society as a whole.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months.

Employment conditions

The conditions of employment correspond with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). We offer a 0.8 FTE contract, initially for one year.

Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 3,746 (scale 11-0 CAO NU) gross per month and up to a maximum of € 5,826 gross per month (scale 12-10 CAO NU), based on full-time.

Erasmus University has attractive employment conditions, which include a holiday allowance of 8 per cent, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3 per cent, and a generous number of vacation days.
