Job description

The Department of Business Administration at the Nijmegen School of Management is looking for a new colleague at the Assistant Professor level for its Strategic Management group. As Assistant Professor of Strategic Management, you will be an active researcher in the field of strategic management and corporate social responsibility/corporate sustainability. You will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of the research and teaching programme of Business Administration as it is directly linked to the Radboud Centre for Sustainability Challenges (RCSC). You will teach courses in the Bachelor's degree programme in Business Administration and the Master's specialisation in Strategic Management and the interfacultary master Science for Sustainability. You will supervise PhD candidates as well as Master's and Bachelor's students working on their theses. As an academic entrepreneur, you will contribute to the development of the Resorg Compass research center within Business Administration as well the faculty, the Science for Sustainability master, the Global PhD programme on Sustainability Challenges as these final two are parts of the RCSC. 
In addition, you will contribute to the development of research in line with the Department's Responsible Organization research programme. You will conduct disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary research, publish in international high-quality journals, attract external funding for research projects, acquire and supervise PhD projects, build international networks with academics and societal partners, and contribute to general management and coordination tasks in the chair group, department and RCSC. Above all we are seeking a highly motivated, committed and collaborative candidate to further strengthen our department.

Requirements

  • You are an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist, an entrepreneurial academic and a strong team player, passionate about the impact both research and education can have for society.
  • You have a PhD degree in business administration or a related field.
  • A pipeline of publications or an excellent reputation in the field of strategic management and corporate social responsibility or corporate sustainability, evidenced by a publication record in internationally recognised high-quality journals.
  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of recent theoretical and empirical developments in the field of strategic management and corporate social responsibility or corporate sustainability.
  • The ambition and/or track record to attract research funding.
  • Ample teaching experience, proven effective teaching skills, the capacity to develop and implement innovative teaching methods, and proven ability to supervise the development and implementation of academic study programmes.
  • A Dutch university teaching qualification (BKO or UKO) or equivalent would be an advantage.
  • Ability to inspire and supervise young scholars (i.e. PhD candidates).
  • Proven ability to cooperate with and inspire a team of professionals.
  • Entrepreneurial skills to contribute to the development of the Resorg Compass research center and the RCSC.
  • Strong connections to organisational and business practice.
  • Substantial international experience and network.
  • Excellent English language skills and a willingness to learn Dutch (if applicable).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 4 years.

  • Employment: 0.8 - 1.0 FTE.
  • The exact salary depends on your qualifications and amount of relevant professional experience. A gross monthly salary from a minimum of €3,807 and a maximum of €5,211 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11, scale 12 may be applicable).
  • In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • Duration of the contract: 4 years with the possibility of a permanent contract after positive evaluation.
  • The intended start date is 1 March 2022 or soon thereafter.

The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organisations. There are seven disciplines within NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. The Department of Business Administration is responsible for the BSc programmes in Business Administration (including a full track offered in English, and a track in International Business Administration) as well as eight specialisations within the MSc programme in Business Administration (all in English). The department consists of five Chairs: Strategic Management, Organisational Design and Development, Marketing, Methods, and Strategic Human Resource Management. Our interdisciplinary Responsible Organisation research programme addresses the multiple values underlying responsibility, the conditions required to realise those values, and the interventions geared to the transition of organisations towards responsible organisations. We co-create knowledge with multiple stakeholders in the wider community to ensure the impact of our scholarly work.

The Strategic Management group focuses on strategy processes in relation to the dynamic and complex environment that organisations are confronted with and the competencies and skills required to deal with the diversity and plurality of stakeholders and digitalisation and sustainability challenges to create multiple values for an organisation and its surroundings. Members of the Strategic Management department have published in high-impact journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Global Strategy Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of World Business, Long Range Planning, Journal of Law and Economics, Organization Studies, and Research Policy.
